Phillip to compete at Carifta Swim Championship

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Virgin Islands swimmer and Rio Olympian Elinah Phillip will be representing the territory at the 2017 Carifta Swimming Championships, being held in Nassau, The Bahamas, beginning Saturday April 15, 2017, and hosted by the Bahamas Swimming Federation.

Phillip, who was selected to participate by the BVI Swimming Federation, will feature amongst athletes from 26 different countries at the 32nd edition of the games, which have been held as a single sport event since 1985.

The teenager, who was the 3rd fastest swimmer from the Caribbean Region at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, in her age bracket, is scheduled to swim in 3 events, including the 50m Butterfly, the 50m Freestyle and the 100m Freestyle.

The first staging of the Carifta Games took place in Barbados in 1972 and Swimming began to hold its own Games in 1989 organised by the Amateur Swimming Associations.

Participating Countries include, Antigua & Barbuda, Haiti, Aruba, Jamaica, Bahamas, Martinique, Barbados, Netherland Antillies, Bermuda, St Kitts and Nevis, [British] Virgin Islands, St Lucia, Cayman Islands, St Maarten, Curacao, St Martin, Dominica, St Vincent and The Grenadines, French Guyana, Suriname, Grenada, Trinidad and Tobago, Guadeloupe, Turks and Caicos, Guyana and the US Virgin Islands.
