ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – The petty contracts for the Road Town Sewerage project are yet to be signed, Virgin Islands News Online understands.

At a January 12, 2012 meeting, Hon. Mark Vanterpool, Minister for Communications and Works, had disclosed to residents that between seven and eight contracts were authorised by the Ministry to execute the sewerage project.

He had also explained that the contracts had to be reviewed before given the green light. The estimated cost of the petty contracts was in the ballpark of $470,000.

When the Ministry was contacted for an update yesterday, January 24, 2012, its Communications Officer, Natasha Lettsome, stated that no contracts were inked and added that the acting Permanent Secretary (PS) Arlene Thompson “could not say at this time when the contracts will be signed”.

Meanwhile, Hon. Vanterpool had notified residents that the smelly issue of sewerage in the Virgin Islands’ capital - Road Town - could be remedied by May 2012.

“It is Government’s intention to work very hard towards making that deadline possible,” he had stated to a small group of residents and business owners when pressed for a deadline.

The project, which is managed by CBE Engineering Associates Limited, will be done in phases to minimise the disruption.

The replacement of pipes in the First Bank area from Simply Delicious, towards Bolo’s Department Store will be the first phase of the project, which will be followed by works carried out from Tortola Department Store to the pumping station at the Roundabout.

You should be ashamed to ask that question. The real quesion is why should Mark and NDP be struggling now to fix something that VIP should've done years ago, can you answer that? Tell us why Fraser was focused on his marina instead of fixing our roads and sewerage. I'm waiting!! The man in there 3mths trying to fix what VIP couldnt' do in 4yrs 3mths. I didn't hear your mouth then. So, answer my question above, thank you!

Who ever you are just shut your syupid mouth up. The financing for the project was obtained by the VIP, the plans and design was also obtained by the VIP. As a matter of fact this was a very high priority project on the VIP schedule. What Mark is finding out for himself is that the bad minded people of this country will do anything to stop what they don't like. check the Mansion Road as an example has the same landowner sign any paper giving permission to use his land as yet. This is typical of most BV Islanders they say one thing in public but it is what they do in private is what you should be afraid of. So if you really look at it with the financing and the plans already in place there is no excuse not to start the sewerage project. Don't let this be like the Purcell road/ghut project condemmed and then continue the sameway. You all are making the VIP look good. Nothing like when you leave your girlfriend for another woman only to find out that the ex-girlfriend was the best girlfriend.
