ST GEORGES, Grenada, WI - Orlando Peters carved out his maiden first class hundred and Liam Sebastien, his first ever ten-wicket haul, as Leeward Islands Hurricanes put up an admirable fight on day three of their third round WICB Professional Cricket League clash at the National Stadium, Grenada yesterday Sunday November 30, 2014.

Resuming from their overnight 102 for one, the Leewards kept Windward Islands Volcanoes in the field all day at the National Stadium here, before being dismissed late in the day for 334.

The Windwards require 136 for victory on Monday’s (December 1, 2014) final day.

Peters was at the centre of the Leewards fightback, scoring 104 and anchoring two half-century stands along the way, before becoming the final victim of the innings and off-spinner Sebastien’s fifth.

Opener Austin Richards struck 54, his sixth first class half-century, while captain Devon Thomas chipped in with 38 and lower order batsman Jacques Taylor, 25.

Sebastien once again led the Windwards attack to finish with five for 30 and match figures of 10 for 89. He got support from left-arm seamer Kenroy Peters (2-51) and West Indies off-spinner Shane Shillingford (2-110), both of whom picked up two wickets apiece.

The Leewards appeared headed for a now familiar collapse when they lost both overnight batsmen to slump to 120 for three. Peters first removed Montcin Hodge for 15 to a catch by Johnson Charles at gully before trapping Richards lbw a few overs later.

Richards, unbeaten on 42 overnight, reached his half-century of 164 balls of 169 minutes before departing soon afterward.

The innings then became the Peters show. Playing in only is 15th first class game, the 26-year-old right-hander faced 282 balls in nearly 5-1/2 hours at the crease, and struck six fours and two sixes.

He posted 73 with Thomas for the fourth wicket and added a further 69 with Taylor for the sixth.

Thomas batted 88 balls and 107 minutes before falling lbw to Shillingford at 193 for four.

Peters raised his half-century in style, moving to 46 with a cover-driven boundary off Peters before lifting fast bowler Nelon Pascal over square for another four.
