BAUGHERS BAY, Tortola, VI – It is a ‘stitch in time’ for the Family Support Network (FSN) as proceeds from a yard sale held by the Peter Island Resort will be given to the Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) that assists victims and others affected by Domestic Violence.

The yard sale was held this morning, November 8, 2013 at the CSY dock parking lot and saw a number of high-end items on sale.

President of FSN, Ms Judith Charles was all smiles and full of appreciation as she said the fundraiser put on by the Management of Peter Island Resort came at a time when FSN was pondering where it would have found cash to execute two programmes in the pipeline.

“This comes in at the right time because we have two programmes, very important programmes that we really have to pull off. The money that we will receive from this activity here today will at least do us well with some aspects of one of the programmes,” she told Virgin Islands News Online.

Several persons flocked the yard sale that saw quite a number of household items on sale at extremely competitive prices. Items included beds, chair sets, bedside lamps, a few pieces of utensils and wall pictures in all sizes.

General Manager of Peter Island Resort, Mr Wilbert Mason said it is not their practice to “wave a wand in the air” whenever they do a charity as it is the cause that matters and not the entity and their goodwill. He said, however, that the resort recognizes the important work that FSN has been doing and its need for further funding to continue future initiatives.

Ms Charles revealed that it was not the first time Peter Island Resort has come through for the Family Support Network. She urged that others follow suit. “It does not have to be a mountain, although we do need a lot of money to carry on the work of FSN, but a little does go a far way.

It is not clear to this news site as yet how much money was raised.

It wold be even better for one of the Billionaire island owners to do something like this for the FSN. Go out and buy about 10 trailers of furniture and stuff to sell.

Interesting, I could have used a few for items myself for my place and most of all I really like the idea behind the sale. But, its unfortunate that the publicity comes after the event. Perhaps it was designed this way for a reason, who knows.

Me too. I wish I had known about it but not any big advertising obviously or I would have been there to buy.

I only heard it once, but it was on the radio. I wasn't able to make the sale myself because of the timing -- wonder if everything was sold...

Fantastic to see a resort assisting a very essential local charity. Shame it was not better advertised ahead of time.
