‘PEP’ a wakeup call for ‘VIP’ – Hon J. Alvin Christopher
This statement was aroused by the question put to Hon Christopher whether the announcement of a General Members meeting of the VIP for elections was strategic to coincide with his departure from the party.
“Maybe it was a wakeup call to let them know that we are now moving into, what we would term in politics as the real deal and if they would form a viable, serious contestant for the next coming elections maybe they might have to roll out…” said Hon Christopher.
He said that while the VIP is said to be a well-structured political party, he found it amusing that for almost seven (7) years they have not had a general members’ meeting. “If I who was a member can’t even remember off the bat how long ago they hadn’t a meeting [it] says a lot.”
He also bashed the VIP for not having any structure for which to pay dues despite the fact that the party has a constitution which speaks to ways a party member can lose membership. He was not shy to say that he had not paid any dues to the party for more than two years. Hon. Christopher stated, “…What I am saying is that by [delinquency], not delinquent of myself but also by the institution itself I believe that my departure is fully justifiable.”
Responding to the question of PEP taking away votes from the VIP come the next elections, Hon J. Alvin Christopher said, “In the last elections I believe that the VIP didn’t get as many votes as the NDP... so if we are to, as such, take the rein of this country I think we have to concentrate more on the NDP to have the most votes because only through the majority of the votes we would be the leaders that we aspire to be.”
