ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Radio talk show host and commentator Donald E. de Castro said persons have come to him already expressing ‘buyer’s remorse’ about voting the National Democratic Party (NDP) back into power.

He made the statement during his Straight Talk radio show heard on Wednesday August 12, 2015 on ZBVI 780 AM.

The NDP won in what could be described as a landslide election on June 8, 2015, with an 11 to 2 victory reducing the Opposition from four seats and decimating all of the Virgin Islands Party ( VIP ) candidates except Honourable Julian Fraser RA (R3) and Honourable Andrew A. Fahie (R1).

Following the result, there have been calls for the restructuring of the leadership of the VIP and it is expected that there is some measure of fireworks at the party’s elections on September 2, 2015.

"Several people have finally admitted to me that they are sorry that they voted this Government back into power...they said all of the work that had been going on before elections, everything has stopped," de Castro said.

"I know. But nobody cared...nobody listened," he lamented.

It has been observed that there had indeed been a flurry of activity prior to elections and many had termed these elections gimmicks aimed at creating the illusion that things were being done and that they were more or less strategically timed to get people's attention.

The NDP know how to win an election. You can fool some of the people some of the time but you cannot fool all of the people all of the time. The people were bamboozled and now will have to pay for the next 4 years or maybe 3 1/2 years.

The "social commentators" in the BVI are all irrelevant know it alas that say controversial things because they know that the BVI Press will report their silly views. It is not just Donald- Edmund and the two with the made up African names fall into the same category.
Why does the press record their ill thought out self publisising views.

Why do those two use made up names? Are they embarrassed by the names their parents gave them? Judging by the number of votes in the election, it looks like not even their parents voted for them!

What choice did the people of the BVI have, vote in the slate that the VIP offered ?

I am one...My Decision was merely about Dr. Smith or Frazer, I chooses Dr. Smith---Though I wanted a change in labour and Health badly--I was hoping Dr. Smith would do some switching around.

You are so correct with your statement and that is the reason Andrew and others trying to get rid of Fraser. If VIP had voted for VIP all now the Goverment would not have formed as they are and will never be together

If all Dr Smith is doing is giving our lands and property to rich white friends, I don't see how he can be considered bettir than Fraser, Fahie or Christopher.
We must also stop naturalizing the foreign influx. All we are going to succeed in doing is losing our country.

When I'm in my hopelessly idealistic mood, I imagine a BVI where everyone had enough sense to scratch their ballots to send a message to these politicians and the world: We deserve better and we aren't being represented fairly or reasonably. Scratched ballots can be just as powerful as an X, especially when done in large numbers.

Honestly, I think it serves everybody right. This deceitful system of nepotism, welfare state, backhanded concerns and underhanded promises needs to stop. We the people of the Virgin Islands deserve transparency and the right to be involved in the decisions on our behalf. This government keeps making decisions without even letting us know that there was a decision to be made in the first place and then they tell us it's for our own good. We need to be active. This is our country, our home and until we can stand for ourselves and demand a standard for our politicians to follow, we deserve every kick and slap that comes our way.

Also, we need to stop voting selfishly and accepting petty bribes. What is $2000 when millions of dollars are being looted from the people? What is a house if you have no roads to access it or, water or electricity in it? What's the point of land if you have no deed? People need to start thinking about the bigger picture. Where are our selfish wants leading us too and how much does our integrity cost? What is the price of our freedom, happiness and future?

I know that people don't like hearing the opinions of people like Mr. de Castro and Edmund Maduro and you're entitled to disagree with them but I honestly feel that when people like them are gone, there will be no honesty. Because of people like them, who speak their minds regardless of how people might feel like them, the people of the BVI have been able to hear an alternative opinion and despite how I might feel about their opinion, I respect them for that.

Mr. deCastro need to speak for himself and express his own opinion. It is obvious that he amongst some of the other critics expect the NDP to do everything in the country within a month's time; which is simply impossible and unreasonable. In my opinion, the NDP is not the best government but taking into consideration the list of candidates that were presented at the last general elections; the electorate did not have much choice other than to choose between the lesser of the two evils. And, contrary to what is said about the NDP and their white friends, we must also remember that the VIP promoted nepotism to its peak and spared no efforts to take care of their friends and cronies as well. Let those who are without sin throw the first stone.

Only good things will happen. That young lady who needs back surgery would not be in that situation if she had insurance. People opposed social security initially and they onepw have a different opinion. The same will happen with NHI. If people do not have the sense and vision to know that medical insurance is now a necessity then it is indeed sad. Every single person would like to prolong their life for as long as possible. That is why we go to the doctor and we cannot expect government to foot all of our bills while we are capable and able to help ourselves. Those who take advantage are responsible for the rest of us having to lay for others.

The old goat is right, but guess what? We had no choice. VIP raided the political morgue and presented a set of DOA candidates. Who wasn't DOA was flatlining with no hope of resuscitation. And guess what? They going into their congress to elect the same half dead executive. They need to revamp their party and attract some intelligent young minds but guess what? The same old coots running so we will be looking at another two terms of NDP minimum. Like it or lump it

The only how NDP can win again is if Doc make some ministerial changes, then again, it don`t seem like Doc is in charge, -- kedrick- health and environment---Myron- education, agriculture and culture- Ronnie labour and social development-----Mark is good----Doc is good. Prepare Oneal to take over from Kedrick. Prepare Turnbull to take over from Myron. Prepare Marlon to take over from Mark. Prepare Ms. Caines to take over from Ronnie. Prepare Mark to take over from Doc Smith

Part of the bitterness remaining is that "NDP has reset the way things were being done in the Territory to allow for improvement" and further development without informing or including the people. If people do not have faith why do they have to "support the Government"? It is up to the government to reach out to the people and win them back in my opinion. NDP may have won because VIP ran a poor race, but the principles of better services and transparency are still issues.

honestly I totally regret. the vip is weak in my opinion. mostly why is because there is mostly new candidates every 4 years and prior politician, they are not well known by the community. more campaigns needs to be done so the vip well get a better chance with higher count voted and each candidate with in the Vip will plan better from EARLIER SO THAT CAMPAIGNING FROM EARLIER will make them stamp the NDP OUT.. RONNIE SKELTON..why is medical Bills so high. Hospital visits by individuals is not often .. only by some. Now this dum insurance NHI.. is pure scam.. how can we lower Food prices and electricity prices and low minimum wage. but they are quick to implement things like NHI to generate money and making us struggle more and just working for paycheck by paycheck . now to honor Orlando Smith to rename hospital. STOP putting namea because he is/was a Surgeon for years. these politicians will just be taking over with there names and we the people is suffering years of politician after years and all they get is glorified their names to buildings. Focus on what cost of living having us THE PEOPLE WHO HELP U POLITICIANS IN WITH OUR VOTES. and in the end our taps is dripping drop by drop and there tap is flowing!!!
