Pemberton & Rhymer crowned 2017 Prince & Princess
This event, which is the first official show to kick start the festival activities, got underway at the Sir Rupert Briercliffe Hall in Road Town.
It was evident that Pemberton and Rhymer were the crowd favourites, as the jam-packed hall erupted while they were performing in the various segments of the show.
Pemberton sweeps awards
Jabari Pemberton walked away with the most sectional prizes in the boys section to easily bring home the crown.
He was awarded: Best Introduction Dance, Best ambassadorial Wear, Best Ambassadorial Speech, Best Triple S wear (sun, sand, sea) and Best Talent.
In an exclusive interview with Pemberton, he disclosed that this is the first pageant he has competed in.
“I feel awesome. I feel like a real prince. The preparation was good overall and as a matter of fact, the pageant was something that I really wanted to do and it’s going to be fun being the prince,” adding that other young boys should conqueror their fears and compete in the pageant if it is something that they want.
The first runner-up was Sherwood Charles and second runner-up was Xhayne Pemberton.
Sherwood was awarded Best Evening Wear, while Xhayne walked away with awards for Mr Congeniality, Mr Popularity and Most Photogenic.
‘Never give up’- Rhymer
On the other hand, the crowd’s favourite princess was Lyriq Rhymer.
Rhymer copped the majority of the prizes in her section, which led her to being crowned this year’s festival princess.
She received awards for Best Ambassadorial Wear, Best Ambassadorial Speech, Best Triple S Wear (sun, sand, sea) and Best Evening Wear.
Speaking with our news reporter, Rhymer, like her male counterpart, stated that this is the first time she is competing in a pageant.
“I feel good. I feel great.”
Rhymer advises other young girls to “never give up” and to come out and showcase their talents.
Tyaisia Cameron received first runner-up and second runner-up went to Ashonte Brewley.
Tyaisia won Best Introduction Dance and Best Talent, while Ashonte was voted Miss Popularity.
Most Congeniality and Most Photogenic were awarded to Anaya Findlay.
Other contestants in the competition were K’mari Grant, Adrian Gilbert and Christian Sommersel for the boys, and Emoyah Matthew and Tehillah Hutchinson for the girls.

Congrats they all did well.
She deserve the crown as it was tight competition between her and contestant number two, but all those segment she won she did not deserve it especially evening wear. That should have gone to contestant number one. these judges making them score off of the crowd reaction. Secondly for the boys the winner should not have gotten best talent. yes he is beating the drum but you could have hardly heard them because the music was too loud and he was going faster than the music. The guy that song the calypso he should have gotten best talent but you cannot blame is the judges. These judges, what to see like the ch****** just take her all friends and family and ask them if they want to judge, come on man. Forward you need to go back to the drawing and select judges that know what they are looking for when it come to an individual intellect, stage presence, pose, interaction with the crowd not the other way around. but I is only one opinionated person.
salty much?? hmmmm.....number #1 couldnt get best evening wear looking like a lil dare devil. but let me continue to sip this bush tea
While number 1 looked like a devil number 4 looked like a blue marshmallow....
I've always said the judges of contests ought to be screened and not merely handpicked.
2) Who picked those judges? Majority was affialted with the princess. (From the bay)
3) Could not hear the boy talent who was drumming. The music was to loud.
4) The princess had the ugliest gown on the stage and couldn't walk in that gown she was tripping up/falling over.
5) Let's do better for next year!
listen to my comment they need to bring in people to judge these kids show it looks real bad when they cheat these innocents kids i don't no contestant #2 but she deserve the win from start to talent she was on point she even walk the best in evening wear as her gown wasn't the best thou i honestly think best dress is the princess in green and ambassadors outfit was to go to the Matthew princess best ambassadors speech was to go to the princess in white evening wear i think that was #4....as far i see the judges eyes was on the popular last names....
When two judges from CGB hell yes the CGB child must win
Let us ALL keep in mind that our OPINION is just that an OPINION. We were not on the panel of judges and no two people will automatically think the same.
GET OVER YOURSELVES and ALLOW THE PRINCESS TO SHINE!
Congratulations to all contestants. You are braver than many of us adults and are an inspiration.
The fact that you participated and kept your chin up throughout the show shows you are all winners.
Now prince, remember to let your princess take the lead and not walk ahead of her.
But don't sit behind your computer and drag a 10 year old child for going on stage in front of so many people to perform and do her best. That is very LOW of some of you. Grow up
Please tell me the names of the judges. Really two judges from CGB? Cannot believe.
1)- SSS Wear- Before the sun, sand and sea segment, the hosts specifically said that the outfits should not have been a costume. Contestant number 4 outfit was clearly a costume but yet she was the winner of that segment.
2)- Evening Wear- All of the young ladies dresses were BEAUTIFUL. However, most of them did not walk their dresses well. Because of the fact that i was sitting in the front, i saw every imperfection that went on. Number 4 and number 1 both tripped while walking in their dresses and numbers 3 and 5 did not walked their dresses very well. Number 2 walk her dress extremely well with grace and poise and her dress along with number 6 dress was actually the best two out of the girls.
3) Ambassadorial Speech- I honestly think that Number 3 delivered her speech very well and the best out of all. She spoke very clearly and looked confident while delivering her speech to the audience with out any flaw unlike some others. She stood tall and had the audiences attention.
Overall i honestly thought that princess number 2 would have won the show and princess number 6 as the 1st runner up. But what else can i say? We don't know what exactly the 'judges' were looking for. All the contestants (both boys and girls) did well and they put on a really good show. This year was one of the best in a really long time.
We as adults must set an example and watch how we act, what we say as children are mimicking our actions.
How many people ACTUALLY WANT TO BE JUDGES? That's the problem in the BVI. Festival, Queen Shows and everything else, you ask people to join, they may do so initially but because they're not making money and it's not a big position to show off, they stop showing up. Everyone complains about what needs to be done but when it comes to joining in and helping, hardly anyone can be found. Look at our annual Parade and make all the excuses you want, it's a damn shame. Tell us why we have the same people in the Parade year after year while thousands complain about this that or the other but refuse to get involved. The children are mimicking our actions yes and LYING and being HYPOCRITES are the biggest issues around here and you fall right into that category pretending to give a sh*t. Everyone sits on the sidelines while others work their @&&e$ off for free, sacrifice their time for free and only when it's all over the same lazy &^%$£ come off their sidelines talking about how it should be. If you know how it should be done, get involved, if not, STFU!
Yes we are all entitled to say how we feel but to sit and degrade CHILDREN, who we say are the FUTURE OF THE BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS; is just distasteful! I am sure some of you would NEVER be able to do what those children did on Sunday, so please be mindful of your words!
I do not know any of the contestants but a smashing job well done to ALL of you! You were able to overcome fear, anxiety and shyness to entertain what people call the TOUGHEST crowd to please!!
Job Well Done!
A tough but important lesson to learn as a child - that even when you do good there are those who will find fault. Take this experience with you into the future and use it to your advantage. Always think positive. When they throw stones, collect them and build your palace.
Good Luck Hon and may God continue to cover you and your family. Your future is bright.
