Peebles Hospital receives AccuVein Machine from Ellie’s Wish Foundation
In a brief demonstration to persons present, by simply holding the device above the skin, an infrared light is illuminated and the vasculature (network of veins) is displayed on the surface of the skin. The technology will save valuable time for physicians, nurses, and, patients.
Dan Perkins, Father, of Ellie Perkins, a 2-year-old baby girl who succumbed to injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident on March 9, 2016 in the Great Mountain area, made the presentation to the Peebles Hospital on behalf of the Ellie’s Wish Foundation. Members of the BVIHSA Executive, Pediatricians, and Nursing staff were on hand to receive the contribution.
In making the presentation, Mr Perkins, Founder of Ellie’s Wish Foundation, stated that the Foundation was established as a Non-Profit Organisation (NPO) approximately six months ago in Ellie’s honour, and its purpose is to raise funds to purchase medical equipment for the Pediatric Unit of the Peebles Hospital. The V400 AccuVein is the first piece of equipment to be donated by the Foundation in hope that it will help the medical team in providing care to children.
In the meantime, Dr Annelise Wilkins – Registrar, who is also a member of the Ellie’s Wish Foundation, further explained; “The AccuVein finder is a piece of equipment that helps us locate veins in children in situations such as trauma, which is pertinent to the basis of the charity. So we look forward to using it and it will definitely improve health care, more specifically foster patient-centered care, in the BVI Pediatrics Unit.”
In her response and on behalf of the Board, Executives and Staff of the Peebles Hospital - Mrs Paula G. Chester-Cumberbatch – Chief Executive Officer, thanked Mr Perkins and the Ellie’s Wish Foundation for their generous contribution to the organisation and declared the V400 machine will be put to good use.
