CARROT BAY, Tortola, VI - A group of young people from the Carrot Bay Pathfinder Club is making big plans to attend one of the largest Camporee in the United States during the upcoming summer vacation.

Every 5 years since 1985, over 40,000 youth and young adults come together from over 60 countries in Oshkosh, Wisconsin to celebrate God, have fun and fellowship together in the largest Christian Youth event in the world. This year, for the first time, approximately 25 pathfinders and staff of the Carrot Bay Pathfinder Club is planning to participate in this International Pathfinder Camporee which will be held from August 11-16, 2014 under the theme ‘Forever Faithful’.

During an interview with the Club’s Director, Tasha Bertie, she said, “Needless to say, our boys and girls are very excited about this once-in-a-lifetime phenomenal opportunity. For several months the young people, their parents and supporters have undertaken several fundraising activities to help defray the cost of the trip.  We have reached out to the community through various fundraisers to facilitate this trip and the responses thus far have been very positive.”

One of such fundraiser will be held on 21st Monday dubbed the ‘Easter Monday FUNDAY’. On Easter Monday the Club will host a grand fun-day event with hopes that the public will come out and have a great time.

One of the highlights of this event is that two prominent persons in our community have volunteered to sit in a dunk tank in an effort to help raise the much needed funds. Hon. Andrew Fahie and Pastor Holford Brown have agreed to sit in the tank with high hopes that no one gets them wet all day. A number of other fun activities such as sack races, bucket races, tug-of war, a bouncy house and a wet slide will also be made available especially for the kids.

“It is anticipated that it will be a great day of fun for the entire family which is scheduled to begin at 10 am and will finish when the fun ends.” Ms. Bertie further stated.

Ms. Bertie also took the opportunity to thank all the persons who have demonstrated their unwavering support of the Club’s fundraising efforts and also to offer special gratitude to the Youth Director of the North Caribbean Conference of Seventh-day Adventist, Dr. Vincent A. David who has provided tremendous support to the Club.

The Pathfinder Club is a worldwide youth organization sponsored by the Seventh-day Adventist church since 1927.  It is a community youth organization that embraces all youth regardless of their religious persuasion. Through the pathfinder 6 year curriculum, young people between the ages of 10 -16 learn camping/survival skills, grade appropriate leadership training, activities promoting community pride and involvement, visiting and encouraging the elderly, as well as interactive training in a variety of recreational, artistic, nature, conservation and vocational programmes.
