ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – A fundraiser is being planned for three of the Virgin Islands’ (VI) top horses on June 2, 2012 at Ellis Thomas Downs, disclosed Virgin Islanders Horse Owners’ Association President Lesmore Smith, and the monies will go towards the upkeep of the track as well as for paying out the purses.

Residents are encouraged to come out and dole out money at the bar as they reminisce and celebrate the victories of East End Tap, winner of the third leg of the Triple Crown; Good Prospecting who copped the USVI’s Governor’s Cup for the second time in a row and Really Uptown, the speedster that won his race in the Carnival races.

“This is the first time we will be holding such an event and the food is free of course,” Smith stated. He also noted that Premier Dr. D. Orlando Smith, Minister for Education and Culture Hon. Myron Walwyn and Third District Representative Hon. Julian Fraser, RA will are invited to “give words of encouragement.”

The proceeds from the bar will go towards assisting with the purses since many of the sponsors are unable to contribute due to economic constraints and the upkeep of the track.

Showtime will be providing the entertainment and the event begins at 7 p.m.
