ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI -The 2014 Football season continued on Saturday, February 1, 2014, with the Panthers F.C. shooting to the top of Division One with an 8-1 rout of the Haitian Stars F.C. as well as One Love beating the Rebels 4-1and the Islanders winning 1-0 against the Wolues.

National Team player Gregory James opened the scoring inside 5 minutes with a well placed right footed half volley, having found himself unmarked in the six yard box.

Stenneth Williams doubled the lead just a few minutes later; following up to force home a low drive after Horace Cole had caused some panic amongst the Haitian defence.

James scored his second in the 34th minute to make it 3-0 at half time and then turned provider 5 minutes into the second period when his cross was only half cleared and fell invitingly at the feet of Williams, who made no mistake with a sweetly timed shot.

With just under 30 minutes remaining the Stars added to their own demise when more defensive confusion saw them concede again, of the shin of a defender and then with 20 minutes left Keon Liburd got his reward for a tireless, energetic performance, with the Panthers’ 6th goal.

Another own goal made it 7-0 and then the Haitians scored a consolation through Ricardo Lynch before Craig Roberts made it 8-1 in the dyeing minutes.

On Sunday February 2, 2014, the Premier League took centre stage with the Rebels losing 4-1 to One Love and the Islanders dealing the Wolues a 1-0 defeat.

One Love, featuring new January transfer window signing, Jovan Wallace, were irresistible in the opening minutes of the game with the ex Sugar Boy and Chavaugn Williams running the Rebels defense, missing several players through suspension, ragged.

Wallace scored with a diving header in the 14th minute and again in the 58th minute with another header, either side of a bizarre equalizer for the Rebels, who had been camped in their own half for much of the first half.

Although Antonio Rusell was accredited with the own goal, Bryan Smith had got in between two defenders to get his head on a long ball and steer it goal wards. The Keeper seemed to have the bouncing ball covered, but inexplicably let it slip his grasp and nestle into the back of the goal.

Once Wallace had restored One Loves advantage both Williams and Richard Morgan made sure of the 3 points with further goals to add some gloss to their victory.

The second game on Sunday then saw the battling Wolues frustrate the Islanders as they put in a great solid defensive performance and looked to catch the Islanders on the break.

Despite some nervous moments in defense, where keeper, Nick Messum, was in fine form and some wasted opportunities from the Islanders attack, the Wolues kept the game scoreless until a moment of inspiration from Fitzroy Daley in the 39th minute.

Daley outpaced and avoided tackles from four Wolues defenders and then with an outstretched boot steered home past the advancing Messum for the game’s only goal.

Declan Cassidy had a chance with a curling effort to level the score before the break as did Rory Greenan, who chose to pass rather than shoot.

In the second half chances were few and far between for the Wolues, whilst almost the entire Islanders side had chances to score, including Jhon Samuel who rattled the bar and Valdo Andersen.
