ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Ahead of the official kick off of activities to mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month, several initiatives are already taking shape to support the month long observances.

One such activity is that which had its debut last year, ‘Breeze PaddleSurf’, an activity that is now beginning to take root in the Virgin Islands.

Speaking with this news site about the event that commences tomorrow September 19, 2015, President of the BVI Cancer Society Ms Gloria A. Fahie said that though the event is new it is one that is fun filled and will see all the proceeds raised donated to the cancer society.

“Breeze Paddle Surf is having a paddle surf tomorrow on the beach at Cane Garden Bay from 10am and all funds would be donated to the cancer society. It’s a two day activity where they would have the local paddle tomorrow and Sunday they would be paddling to White Bay, Jost Van Dyke,” explained Ms Fahie.

She was high in praise for the man whose initiative the event is credited to- Mr Lee Donovan. “While he was not able to raise as much as he would have wanted to last year for the society we are pretty sure this time around the support is going to grow and, despite what he brings in, we value his efforts and support for the cause of cancer,” stated Ms Fahie, a cancer survivor.

“I want persons to come out and show support and even participate in this event. It’s lots of fun and the cause for cancer can never be overrated or overstated,” she further said.

“It’s a big thing in the USA/Hawaii and I am hoping that it becomes big here in the BVI too, it’s fun and it’s another event that can be added to our tourism product.”

Breeze Paddlesurf was a proud sponsor and organiser of the StandUp for the Cure event that took place at Cane Garden Bay last September. 100% of the proceeds benefited the BVI Cancer Society while volunteers and participants had a blast doing standup paddling.
