ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - As a result of Hurricanes Irma and Maria, over 1000 vehicles were rendered derelict in the Virgin Islands (VI).

Manager of the Department of Waste Management (DWM) Mr Greg R. Massicote told the House of Assembly’s (HoA) Standing Finance Committee that up to April 2018, 1,104 derelict vehicles had been collected.

He further indicated that his Department had estimated about 1,500 to 2,000 and another 900 are waiting to be collected.

Mr Massicote further indicated that a team from the Department had tagged and moved such vehicles in specific areas, adding that “importance was being given to tourist routes.”

He said despite some difficulties in tagging these vehicles, the teams are working assiduously to have them cleared from these areas.

So what? I pay tax and I didn't abandon my vehicle. Everyone should have been responsible for clearing up their own... this whole … it ain't my job attitude is why the island still looks like it does.

Great job Mr Massicote and team and noting that now with a bigger bucket in play the inside of the incinerator building has been all cleared, a lot more to go but progress.

I am sure there are a lot more than that. Plenty of dumps around the island, just off the road. Several in Sea Cows Bay for a start.

So does Josiah’s Bay. Have cars all over the place. The auto repair shop is the biggest eye sore ever seen down there.

work on those boats; there is one just before you reach the “former” west end ferry terminal: lots on the littering the sea water: some folks fussing over the cars and not much chat about those yachts(go figure!!!!!)

First things first, I am quite sure once the abandon cars is removed the boats will be next.
