Opposition Leader Hon Fraser RA pays tribute to Muhammad Ali
The former world heavyweight champion, Ali, died late on Friday June 3, 2016 at a hospital in the US city of Phoenix, Arizona. He was 74 years of age.
He had been suffering from a respiratory illness, a condition that was complicated by Parkinson's disease.
“Myself, along with the rest of the world, was saddened by the passing of the world's most charismatic, courageous, most maligned by the US government, and greatest heavyweight fighter in history: Muhammad Ali,” Hon Fraser posted on his Facebook wall on Saturday June 4, 2016.
Responses to his post included: “He is now free from all suffering, RIP Brother. God loves you” and “The Greatest of All Times”.
Hon Fraser added that Ali's boxing career spanned a time in his life when he appreciated the sport and the competitors.
The Opposition Leader also tweeted: “MUHAMMAD ALI THE GREATEST. Died at 74. So happy I have lived through his greatest moments. He was the world greatest.”
Tributes for the heavyweight great have been pouring in from across the world, including George E. Foreman who lost his world title to Ali in the famous "Rumble in the Jungle" fight in Kinshasa in 1974, Barack H. Obama, William J. 'Bill' Clinton, Jesse L. Jackson, Donald 'Don' King and Floyd J. Mayweather Jr.
Meanwhile, Ali's funeral will take place in his hometown of Louisville, Kentucky.
