ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Sharlene S. Dabreo, Director of the Department of Disaster Management (DDM) was presented with over $30,000 worth of food supplies from Vice President of One Mart Superstore, Mrs Judith Vanterpool today, November 22, 2017 at the Festival Grounds in Road Town.

One Mart and Walton and Post were the suppliers of the generous donation to DDM.

During the presentation ceremony to DDM, Mrs Vanterpool expressed hopes that the donation will be much appreciated by the people of the territory.

“I have another opportunity now to say that Mark and I are very proud and very humbled to be able to contribute to the well-being of the people of the Virgin Islands another time. We do hope that this contribution will be well received and be used by the people of the Virgin Islands,” said Mrs Vanterpool.

Even distribution

Showing appreciation for the donation, Ms Dabreo emphasised that every district and persons who are really in need will receive a portion of the contribution.

She said, “On behalf of the government of the BVI, I want to thank you very much for you and your husband for your generous contribution and to your suppliers. Please extend our gratitude. We will ensure that the distribution reaches every single district and the people who are in need receive the assistance,” while adding that the donation was very timely.

She further stated that there are still a few people within different communities that really need the assistance and she assured they will be targeted in order to receive the food supplies.

According to the DDM Director, distribution will begin today, November 22, 2017 to those areas that were severely affected, including Huntums Ghut, Long Trench, Long Look, Beef Island, East End, Hope Estate and areas of Road Town.

“As you are aware, we have done quite a lot of distribution and the distribution has gone to all of the districts and we have isolated some communities that were hardest hit. These supplies will go to those individuals that we now know need to have a little bit more help to get them over the next few stumbling blocks, to allow them to get some recovery going forward,” explained Ms Dabreo.

Elderly, children to mostly receive latest relief aid

Meanwhile, Ms Dabreo revealed that in the initial stages of the distribution process, it was slow because ports around the islands were damaged and then there was an overwhelming influx of relief items coming into the country, while admitting that now the relief items were evenly distributed.

She said, “Now I think with this contribution coming at this time we can really target those individuals; the elderly, the children and other individuals who really need to get this assistance and this is really timely, we really once again thank One Mart Supermarket for your donation. They have been giving and giving and giving.”

It was on October 18, 2017 that One Mart Superstore made a donation of $5000 to Simmonds Preschool Ltd in Lower Estate, Tortola, as a continuation of the business’ commitment to the school to donate $5000 at the beginning of every school year over five years.

Giving and donating is good but not at the expense of hard working staff...Rite way and One Mart (holding one head they were getting all their containers soon after the storm while other businesses were suffering couldn't get their containers) They need to use all those donation to Treat their staff better with appreciation who were there immediately after the storm cleaning up the mess to keep their business in operation. Rite Way reward their staff by sending them home...At lease One Mart did better. They kept all their staff... For that I gave them much kudos

Don't know what they trying to prove or who they trying to impressed. They were better off putting $300.00 in envelopes and give it to their hard working staff. Who work hard day and night during and after the storm...Not because Filipinos don't complain, They left their damaged house and families to take care your business. OMG..Where is God ( For Rite Way and One Mart). Good bosses reward good efforts.. Not some waste of time failure after failure department that cannot give an account for what they already received.. I'm so upset.. Mark disappoint me big time....More punishment on it's way.. To much OMG..Too much..
