ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – A looping header from Collin Green saved One Love from defeat at the hands of Virgin Gorda United in the BVIFA National league on Wednesday February 29, 2012 as they came from a goal down to share the points and keep their slender championship hopes alive.

One Love only had themselves to blame for the game reaching half time still in stalemate as two or three clear cut chances had gone begging. Lenroy Murray, the most culpable, first shooting high and wide with the goal at his mercy and then completely missing his kick from 15 yards out following a neat cut back from the left.

Richard Morgan also scuffed a shot off his shin and only managed to hit the wall with a 20 yard free kick opportunity.

VG, though weren’t without chances themselves as they hit the cross bar and had several promising attacks thwarted by a combination of resolute defending and poor final ball.

The game sprang into life in the second period when VG’s Hilton Matthew found himself unmarked at the far post to fire home the game’s opening goal.

Although One Love then upped the intensity and began to boss the game from midfield, it was VG who should have gone two up when Keeper Graig Sinclair made a hash of a simple save and gave away a penalty. Graig Grant stepped up, but his shot tamely too close to the diving Sinclair who atoned for his mistake.

It then came as little surprise when Collin Green, One Love’s prolific striker rose head and shoulders above VG’s defense to nod home the equalizer, but try as hard as they might, the winner would not come.

The draw, although better than a loss, did more harm than good to One Loves title credentials as they are now six points adrift of the Islanders, who have a game in hand, atop the standings.

In other results, during the latest round of matches a Derrol Redhead second half hat trick wasn’t enough to carry the Sugar Boyz past One Love, as they fell to a 4-3 defeat.

The Lucian Stars scored when it mattered most to beat the Panthers, 4-3, despite going 3 goals down in the first half. Craig Roberts gave the Panthers the advantage in the 25th minute, before Stenneth Williams rounded out their scoring in the 30th and 40th minute of play. Lucian Stars’ Leslie Shepherd cut the deficit a minute into the second half, with Oliver Charles catching the Panthers’ defense sleeping with the first of his two goals three minutes later. Jonnan Henry tied the game at 3-3 in the 61st minute before Charles completed Lucian Stars’ four unanswered goals on 75 minutes and secured the victory.

Dion “Ragga” Clark also scored a hat trick in leading Old Madrid past Haitian Starz, 5-0, for just their second victory of the season. Clarke’s goals on 7, 51 and 89 minutes were sandwiched between scores by Sheldon Harry (60) and Gregg Grant (88).

Also the League leaders, Islanders F.C. were made to work hard to keep their 100% record intact as they rallied from going a goal down to beat the Wolues 4-1. Noel Isaac, unmarked on the edge of the six yard box scored a powerful header to level the game on 46 minutes after Matt Moss had scored with a 30 yard rocket in the first half. Then Ottley put the Islanders ahead capitalizing on a mix up between Will De Hoo and Alvin St Ville, before Francis Primo made it three and Fitzroy Daley rounded off the scoring, outfoxing De Hoo, to make it four.
