Leaving the past behind:

This has been a turbulent year of high drama - We saw the passing of a 1st Premier, the election of a Brexit advocate as Prime Minister, a US President impeached for being unfit for office and the hasty alienation of 1500 VI Rights and Privileges… For better or worse, each of these events can and will affect many of us individually and collectively; positively or negatively; in the short term or in the long term.

To others it may have been a typical year with an abundance of Holidays designed to effectively allow us to hide hardships and suffering in celebrations as we ignore the likelihood of things getting worse rather than better… Maybe this Christmas Holiday will be ‘Family time’ - for not just enjoying the moment but to reflect in order to project in the assessments and solutions for real and pressing issues.

The presence of personal greed, abuse of power, seniors kicked out of the homes they built, families torn apart, children held in cages and leadership lies becoming the norm, have fostered, atrocities and even deaths as Immigration becomes an all-consuming passion… Locally and Internationally, corruption and oppression have become routine expectations from Governments.

Life is too short and death too long for us not to care and share but the trickledown effects are reaching us here in the VI even if they appear somewhat distorted… Records will show that no VIslander fought more for respect and privileges for Non-VIslanders while at the same time, fighting to secure the VIslander’s historical rights to the opportunities and lands of their forefathers.

Unfortunately, many who may know better are losing memories or dying out – although I believe the present Speaker can testify to my position… Meanwhile, as we fail to safeguard against the negative similarities and differences between US Republicans, UK Conservatives are our own local Government, we are fast becoming strangers in our own homes as conditions from the past are still with us today.

What we see may be all there is:

We find Seniors over 50 years old falling into the same 3 groups as those under 50years old… Group #1 – Made up of masters or oppressors, Group #2 – Made up of oppressor’s tools or facilitators and Group #3 – comprised of the victimised or oppressed… The main difference is that those over 50 years focus on securing their own Agenda while those under 50years are willing to gamble away their futures.

We may find the UK’s and US’s Governments of mostly male, white senior citizens more focused on safeguarding their supremacy at the expense of others, while, our youthful local Government appears less intent on safeguarding the long-term intertest of indigenous VIslanders… Subsequently, while the US builds Border Walls and UK creates Brexit and Windrush the VI grows instant populations.

In this way the old maintains control while the Young become their own worst enemy… We get lost in materialistic currents where our wants replace our needs and like juvenile fish, we chase the easiest and biggest bait without considering the hidden hooks inside – We ignore worthwhile attractions to focus on useless distractions and even if caught we still continue to make the same mistakes over and over.

It is easy to let our personal benefit ignore the greater good as we put our faith in politicians and expect our desires to be met via elections… If this is a process of selling and buying votes then these 1500 new Belongers and Residents should be ecstatic about their newfound status - so would I… However, what goes around comes around and what happens to the old is just as likely to happen to the new.

Elections carry consequences and are often influenced by our own greed via whomever we see as giving us the most for the least… We seem unconcern that their winning may be to our detriment since when leaders are visionless, followers perish… The Dual Citizenship that is great for others could mean a loss for VIslanders - Not just in Visa and Work Permits Revenues but a shrinking National Pie.

Be careful what we pray for or God may Laugh:

Then again, we often get what we ask for - Prime minister Johnson told us that he was dedicated to leaving EU without a deal so why should we now expect differently?... President Trump has actually delivered on his promise to treat Government like he treated his own companies - He did not have to explain that he wrecked them because it was public information for those cared enough to know.

It is no secret that the objective of private companies is focused on pleasing owners and shareholders and the customers are only there to achieve this goal… On the other hand, Government is regarded as a social service business where the owners, the shareholders and the customers are one and the same… This is why employees are designated ‘civil servants’ although they act more like public masters.

Any collateral damage resulting from cross contamination of Governments by Trumpism and Brexit, mentality allows for internal corruption and external victimisation by those in seats of power and authority… The overall result is to take us backward rather than forward and even when Leaders are replaced, the people remain subjected to long-term suffering from the previous bad actions or inactions.

Persons heard the message and saw Trump impeached so they think I predicted this and now ask me what is next… Guess what - I am no Prophet - I see things the same as you do but we may reason differently because I do not bet on Horses and Strangers… The things I say are not for some fulfilment but in order that the necessary action can be taken to prevent them happening at our People’s expense.

It is not difficult to recognise wrong from right but Slavery endured for over 200 years so we may have to wait a little longer on the God of Nature and Laws of Balance… Meanwhile, we are too intelligent to be fooled by injustice - Every day begins a New Year and this Leap Year delivers one more day in which to correct the faults in ourselves before demanding changes in others – A New Year for New Resolutions.

Too many boasts of possession as progression and measure their worth based on material goods… It is time to look at the real contributions of our parents 50 years ago as compared to our present status - We would appreciate the values of contentment and empathy and the vision could be a clear indicator of our individual or collective ambition to help or hinder, hurt or heal, move forward or backward.

This is worse than the weekly racist nonsense and 1970's student union politics we get on BVI news - at least it is not SHOUTY this year! Still lots of oppressors!
