ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Dr Nicholas Redhead appeared before the Magistrate’s Court on April 17, 2014 and was officially read one count of rape after being charged for the offence several weeks earlier.

He was not required to plea to the indictable offence and was granted the sume of $5,000 bail at the court.

According to the allegations Police were called to the scene of a disturbance on February 23, 2014 by the Virtual Complainant (VC), who was previously involved in a seven year relationship with the defendant. The mother of two told officers the relationship ended in July 2013.

On arrival police allegedly heard “I’m going to cut you up. Strip and lay down on the bed. You better ride it and don’t let it drop or I will chop off your head.”

After following the voice, the police knocked on the door and the defendant looked through the window.  He then said to the VC, “Which man you call there? I going chop you up. Cover up until I come back.” The defendant then came to the door and in a startled look, he asked, “What’s the problem officer?”

The VC then rushed passed the defendant, dressed in a panty and sleeveless top with a baby under her arms and a little girl besides her and hid behind the officer.

She told police, “Yes, he is terrorizing, threatening me and the children and he even forced himself on top of me. See how I dress, it is because of him.”

The defendant was then cautioned and arrested before being taken to the Road Town Police Station (RTPS).

Afterwards, the VC expressed fear for the safety of herself and children and were later placed in a house of refuge.

She later gave a statement to police and alleged that she was at home with the children when the defendant started to argue with her for nothing. He allegedly threatened to kill her and the children and when she asked what the problem was, he allegedly replied: “I came up here to be with you and that is how it would be. This is my family and nobody going run this show for me. As long as you in this country here, you with me. You not having no other man. You with me. You better learn to deal with it.”

He allegedly instructed the VC to strip and said: “I want some heavenly love tonight, so you better get your mind, body and spirit ready for it. I want full cooperation. You ain’t know where I from. I am from Gouyave. I am bad and you should know you can’t mess with me.”

The VC declined his advances but he approached and allegedly said, “You going dead for I will chop you up. I ain’t going down without a struggle and you should know me by now. I don’t give up. I don’t give up at all without a struggle. Am fighting till ah dead. This is my family and I fighting for this family here. I work too hard for this family here.”

While he was allegedly threatening the VC, she received a telephone call from the police who heard the conversation. He then said to her, “You and the children going dead. You have to be with me. I ain’t going down alone. You ain’t see the job I doing. I can kill you and no one will know what kill you. I don’t have time to make any stupid jail. When I making jail is a big jail I taking.”

The VC alleged that she was raped by the defendant on numerous other occasions, including February 18, 19 and 21.

Redhead was interviewed by police but did not make any reply and instead referred the allegations of rape to his lawyer. Police later charged him with three counts of rape.

Dr Redhead will return to court on May 9, 2014 for another hearing in the matter.
