ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI: The Tortola Pier and Park was bursting with activities and traffic yesterday October 18, 2018, with the massive Norwegian Getaway docked.

The cruise ship brought to the shores of the territory, over four thousand passengers and crew.

In a similar fashion of the welcome received by Disney Fantasy back in August, Minister foŕ Communications and Works Honourable Mark H. Vanterpool earlier was on hand to welcome the Captain, crew and passengers of the Norwegian Getaway in a true Virgin Islands fashion.

The cruise ship returned to the shores of the BVI for the first time following the passage of hurricanes Irma and Maria which extensively distorted the territory.

Token of Appreciation

The Minister presented a plaque to the Captain on behalf of the Premier and people of the BVI as a token of appreciation and friendship.  His Excellency the Governor Mr Augustus Jaspert; Junior Minister for Tourism Honourable, Archibald Christian and the Director of Tourism, Mrs Sharon Flax-Brutus were on hand to witness the event.

According to Hon Christian, "The fact that they are here, they are confident about the Virgin Islands and in particular Tortola Pier Park and we are happy they are coming to experience and we continue to rebuild and repair the BVI."

While underscoring his delight of the return, Hon Vanterpool also noted that the remainder of the year is expected to be very active with cruise ship arrival to the VI. He also announced, "Part of the group coming in December is the celebrity edge that's part of the Royal Caribbean premier Lines a new ship that's coming out there. So we look forward to that."

Mrs Flax Mars that that in December, Carnival has a few more calls to the territory, "It's interesting that the lines are coming back to the BVI. We are one of the favoured destinations in the Caribbean. We are happy they appreciate that the guests appreciate that, their guest are the ones who are telling them they need to make sure that the BVI is on their itinerary.

Both Norwegian and Disney are expected back in the week ahead.

Welcome back but the Getaway was not a regular visitor, it was the Escape, with many more passengers. Also dont think Celebrity Edge is part of Royal Caribbean?
