Non-voters should shut up for four years - Resident
“They say they’re not voting so I say keep your mouth shut for four years. If you don’t have nothing to say for four years whether the government is running good or bad,” the caller said on the Speak Out BVI show aired on May 20, 2014.
He added that residents who decline to vote for politicians because all of them are corrupt should vote for the least of the corrupt lot.
The resident said millions of people around the world have been deprived of the right of voting and many elections have also been one by a margin of one vote, therefore any one vote could make a difference.
“You are not part of the process if the government is running good or bad so keep your mouth shut,” the caller advised.
VIP elections very important for the VI
Meanwhile, host Douglas Wheatley underscored the importance of the upcoming internal elections of the Virgin Islands Party (VIP), describing it as very important for the Territory.
“The Virgin Islands Party has been one of the major parties in this country, a major force to begin with, certainly in the past.”
The host added that the demise of the VIP would be quite a thing if that were to happen. “Everyone is waiting with bated breath to hear the outcome of the elections in the VIP with respect to the chairman and president,” Wheatley stated.
He further noted that the party’s elections will mean a lot in terms of the local polity and upcoming general elections which are constitutionally due in 2015.
