ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - When the public sector resumes operations from Monday, May 4, 2020, some essential officers will be returning to their physical offices while others will find working from home the 'new regular'.

According to Deputy Governor, Mr David D. Archer Jr; however, working from home does not mean productivity will not be monitored.

"We want to be extremely accountable during this time to make sure that when you are supposed to be working you're not sleeping or you're not playing," he said on Wednesday, April 29, 2020, during a live update on Facebook.

Mr Archer Jr said government workers will also be required to take a register which records the time put in and the task performed on the job.

According to the Governor, technology such as teleconferencing and other digital communication mediums will also be utilised to serve clients and help the sector progress.

More Productivity

He said while technological systems have some limitations, he called virtual meetings 'too effective', noting that requests are now being made for virtual meetings to be held at 09:00pm and even as late as 12:00am.

"We do have a system of accountability so that we can ensure that we are getting value for money and our clients are being served well," he said.

The Governor said those who report to work on Monday will work from 8:00am to 12:30pm in keeping with the 1:00pm - 6:00am curfew in the Territory.

"No work, no pay," he said will be the mandate from Monday onwards.

GOOD! I called an essential worker to get help and it sounded as though I woke them up, and they had such a horrible tone of voice and no patience at all, that I hung up the phone vowing to never call back again. I finally got the answers I needed from their rival company who I gave all of the praises to. That first person does not deserve any pay for being rude and unproductive.

You are to lie! As far as I am aware essential workers never stopped working during the mandatory lockdown. I am presuming that you are calling them when they are allowed to go home to their families. Try again

I agree with the deputy governor with working from home too but the internet here in the territory so slow it’s annoying to be doing work and the internet just drops.

So right the Government need to get rid of flow and DIGICEL them down island cellar carriers CCT is local them can’t go nowhere. We need international carriers like our family island USVI

Verizon, sprint and T mobile have excellent internet service. Maybe it is time the BVI look into using a international carrier.

"Down Island Carriers....Flow & Digicel" LOL LOL LOL. You're cracking me up, sorry to say but your comment is so ridiculous I just had to respond. For your information, both of those companies are foreign owned, namely Eurpoean. They have a global presence with the Caribbean region just one of many.

However, we all can agree that Internet service in the BVI simply sucks, and the cost is no different.

CCT isn’t going anywhere but they’re net is still the worse... in a pandemic then ain’t even give y’all a chance... them done cut all y’all because they don’t give a s*** meanwhile the “down island companies” still pushing and isn’t studying disconnection.. y’all some serious arses with this stupid down island talking every minute

Always talking some sh*t bout down island... I'm glad there's a local company thriving but when cct use to be overcharging y'all asses and charging for in coming calls etc yall was complaining.. When bmobile came y'all was rejoicing.... Damn ungrateful...think y'all Above People everything is us this and that...you're located in the effing Caribbean.

This is an island!!!!! The us will label this as third world just the same as any other island. Time to change that mentality.

@ to true: that is wishful thinking and easer said than done but the quality of service between each provider stinks: U have hell calling from
Digicel to CCT and what is hurtful you paying your bill on time each month: having a provider from USA will be a plus: some residents usually place calls throughout the Caribbean others place calls throughout North America: with all the people at home, the internet service have become more sickening again you paying for bad quality service

Down island?... Digicel was founded in an island closer to your god the united states than you are.. The owners of flow and Digicel are white.. You people worship the US so much!!.. do you think that they care about the BVI!?... aside from the USVI because of the family links do you think Puerto Rico cares??...The US doesn’t care and the UK is what is stopping the US from destroying this place.. They don’t like financial competition this tax haven gives

You all would be surprised! Working from home is a beast. I have been doing it for 8 weeks no time off and it is exhausting. I now feel like my home is no longer a place I go to at the end of the work day. My place of respite is now tranished by working from home. At least when you are in the office you shut your laptop down at the end of the day and leave it there, but it is here on my kitchen table and i see it all night long everytime i step into the kitchen. I can see it from the Den. i dont fee like going to the lonely basement where you cannot see any thing outside.

Carve out a space at home if you can, where at the end of the work day you can turn the laptop off and leave that room. Everyone on my team is exhausted because we are dedicated and you tell yourself let me deal with this one last issue or email and I will log off...nope, an hour or 2 later you are still online working. We tallk about it openly in our staff meeting and we've concluded that we feel guilty and don't want to be accused of or viewed as not doing our fair share of work, so we are all overworking ourselves. We also have so many more meetings because you can't just get up an walk next door and discuss the issues or ask a question so now you get the real work done after hours when all the meetings are over. It is truly exhausting mentally and not a cake walk like commenters on this site think. Good luck to all my people! make the best of it though.

You know what? Before this ridiculous statement and comments, I used to start working at 5am, and sometimes I found myself working beyond 5pm, not anymore. I will work within the timeframe specified. When you people speak about work productivity, civil servants are not the decision-makers, but a lot of us do work extremely hard. I work too hard for people to degrade my efforts.

Yesa it is about time to catch these wicked civil humans get themselves check up on. They would soon submit doctor papers, but they out and about calling sick on themsleves. It have some who are just natural liars. We need to mandate a time clock, when we are schedule to come in for 8:30am and we come in 8:45am we are late and that our pay would be deducted same goes to leaving to early. I can name a few departments that need pulling up. A set of users in the 9:30am of 10:40am. I can tell you some would call in running late. Then their running late, when you in town spot them paying bills, but small staff always get blame when higher ones are wicked.

    NO work-NO pay..

We all are aware of the abuse of privilege by persons working from home, and the question here is, do these home-workers give a data of what they accomplished for the day?

You have the following persons working overtime during covid-19:-

    Police, customs,immigration, NURSES,DOCTORS,other health workers,etc,,

These workers should get heavy overtime pay.

    No work-no pay.

That's the best headline for the week.
