DUFF’S BOTTOM, Tortola, VI- The usual Rise and Shine Tramp on August Monday morning as part of the Virgin Islands Emancipation Festival, was not a feature this year due to COVID-19 control and suppression measures in place; however, a wet fete was staged instead.

Local bands and entertainers collaborated with the management of Aqua Sports Bar and Night Club in Duff’s Bottom, Tortola, and pulled off a 'Breakfast Wet Fete' event, which drew a sizable crowd this morning, August 3, 2020.

The promoters of the event had emphasised the wearing of mask and social distancing.

A visit to the event also required keeping a safe distance if one did not want to get wet, as a loaded water truck was not discriminating.

A number of officers of the Royal Virgin Islands police Force (RVIPF) were seen conducting constant checks.

The event is said to have been incident free.

This was very irresponsible to allow this gathering. There was no distancing and no masks as I see in the pictures. The reason we have been safe so far was because the government moved swiftly to put protection in order, so what happened here? Honorable Premier, please don't weaken and allow these gatherings again. All it takes is for one infected person to share with everyone else, and we will be doomed. I don't care where these immature people want to party, lock it down again and take out food orders only. They are being very selfish and I don't care who doesn't like it.
We were relaxed knowing we were safe so far, and now this? Our lives depend on you.

Totally Agree there are large groups gathering. for whatever reasons and hardly anyone wearing a mask. This is definitely going to create.a pop up spike of the Virus. People need to practice safety measures or simply see another and more extensive Lock Down. When this happens blame yourselves for being careless.

Disappointing to know a former election candidate and Government employee were promoting this violation of the law as it relates to social distancing and saw no problem with it.

It had a Family Fun Day function on Saturday and know one was wearing a mask or any Social Districting was been done So when it’s w**** person the rules don’t apply to them but if it’s local it’s always a problem. To much double standard in this place. People wake up and see what is going on in this place.

That story did not make the news hence the reason no one has spoken out about it. I have seen a video of this wet fete and there was absolutely not social distancing and I saw one (1) single male wearing something to cover his face.

Its not double standards to criticise both the family fun day and wet fete events for no social distancing/masks. Double standards would be singling out one event for criticism and not the other. The article is a positive report about the wet fete so stuggle to see the double standards here. The fact that both events went ahead with lack of social distancing sort of proves that the rules were not applying to either event

I agree with you 100% too much double standards here in the BVI. I passed by Prospect Reef on the weekend and my God I couldn't believe my eyes, huge event at least over 60 person mostly W....e, wearing no mask, It's no wonder there is soo much COVID-19 cases in the US because these people are so careless the don't care who they infect. Why isn't there no Health authorities monitoring these large events to ensure public safety, has the Government dropped the ball ?????

Why does it matter the color of the skin of the people that were attending? If it had been mostly black people at the prospect reef event would you be on here criticising? Whether black or white, people can do stupid things and the COVID dont care. When you talk about skin color and race think about the poor lady that succumbed to this evil virus. She was turned away from the hospital on several occassions before she sadly passed away. Do you think she would have been turned away from the hospital had she been local? I strongly suspect not.

Matthew 7:5 Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.

Agree 100%. We all have to avoid parties this year. It's just how it is right now for us all to keep safe. Stop being selfish people. Stop! Or we all will pay for the mistakes. We good here right now. Try to keep your families safe. It's going to pass soon.
