No plans for housing scheme project this year!
Permanent Secretary within the MNR&L Ronald Smith-Berkeley during the 2012 Standing Finance Committee (SFC) deliberations told House of Assembly (HOA) members “nothing would be done in 2012” after he was asked to elaborate on its subhead.
Hodge in an interview with this news site in January 2011, had explained how the scheme would have worked. According to him, a developer would have built several units with the financial backing of Government, which would then be handed over to residents at a “very affordable rate”.
He had added, due to the “economic will of the administration finances” the developers would have used their own funds to build but Government would have paid them as they go. The buildings were to be constructed on Crown lands.
“That is why we are trying to give out all this land here so that people will have the privilege to go to the bank with a guarantee from the Cabinet so the contractors would not have too much of a problem and the liability for Government will just be minimal,” Hodge had added.
