SETTING POINT, Anegada, VI – Virgin Islands Party (VIP) candidate for the Ninth District Elton L. Sprauve aka ‘All Out’ vowed to fight for Anegada and Virgin Gorda once elected to replace the stalwart Honourable Ralph T. O’Neal OBE as he feels the district and Anegada in particular has been left behind for the past three years.

He was speaking at a meeting held by the party on the grounds of Lil Bit Restaurant and Bar, a stone’s throw from the main dock, yesterday evening May 27, 2015.

“I am here on your behalf to fight [for you]. I am here to listen to all of your concerns and all of your ideas for the empowerment and the development of this island,” he said.

Speaking to the modest gathering and making reference to his military training in the United States of America, he said that there is a code when going into battle. “And that code is no man left behind. But Anegadians, from what I have seen here, you have been abandoned. You were left behind for the past three and half years my people.”

He said there is a need for the improvement of medical services on the island. “Everyone goes around wishing you health and strength. But that should be Government’s first priority for the people. You need a resident doctor, you need equipment, you need an upgraded facility. What about the promises for the past three and a half years?” he asked.

Mr Sprauve said that when it comes to land distribution to residents of Anegada he will lead the charge to ensure that they receive land that they are in need of and which they deserve. He opined that land ownership was important for the empowerment of the residents.

Fishing is Anegada

Noting that fishing is one of the lifelines of the people of Anegada, he said Government should not be allowed to take away the livelihood of the people. “Left to them [the National Democratic Party Government] they will turn the whole Virgin Islands into a national park to suit their own best interests. This cannot be allowed to happen ladies and gentlemen. With your help we will stop it,” he said.

The businessman in the tourism and hospitality sector, said the new VIP Government intends to bring an end to the non-access to the beach by locals. “Your fathers, your fathers fathers, your children and their children [are all entitled] to the opportunity to fish those waters too,” he said.

Sprauve scoffed at the idea that Government intends to turn some of the waters near Anegada into a shark sanctuary.

“Can you believe that? I don’t see the logic to it. Over here in Anegada there are no commercial fishermen hunting sharks."

He asked the people what Government has done for them in the last term in office. “From what I have seen you have been left behind. But I will be there for you and that is my word. I am here to tell you tonight that the power is in your hands to chart a new course,” he said.
