DUFF’S BOTTOM, Tortola, VI – The cost of keeping the Save the Seed Energy Centre operating at top standards is said to be exorbitant and Bishop John I. Cline under whose eyes the centre falls hopes for the government of the day to heed calls for the centre to be awarded a grant.

It was the Representative of the Third District Hon Julian Fraser RA who had first mooted the suggestion that through some form or programme the Save the Seed Energy Centre should be awarded a grant to assist with the heavy costs it carries on its shoulders.

Persons were reminded of this suggestion of Hon Fraser by Bishop Cline at the occasion of the opening ceremony of the Honourable Julian Fraser Save the Seed Basketball Tournament on Friday August 15, 2014.

“I have not seen any grant coming from Government,” said Bishop Cline as he admonished that someone should lend an ear to Hon Fraser’s suggestion.

"We hope someone will listen to the Hon. Fraser when he said that we should get a grant to help run this facility because it is an expensive facility to run, but I have not seen any cheque as yet so it means that no one has listened," said Bishop Cline.

Bishop Cline insisted that the facility that has come as a great investment to especially the youths of today’s society is very expensive to run especially with the air conditioning that patrons enjoy, light and other amenities that are necessary.

"Our greatest capital I believe is our youth and the investment we make in them. It is the reason why we have gone out as New Life Baptist Church to invest greatly in a facility such as Save The Seed Centre because we believe that not only preaching will save our community and our country," stated the Bishop as he credited the centre to responding to this need.

He said, “It is an expensive facility to run; you feel the air conditioner, you see the lights and everything else, the maintenance but we are delighted to have the facility.”

Despite the fact that there was a significant amount of donations that went into the construction of the centre they are still to facing the counters of Banco Popular to honour their mortgage as they had secured a loan from that bank to complete the facility.

The facility has also responded to the call for private sector entities to provide employment and aid the process of promoting healthy living and good health. It has also been a source of relaxation, recreation and it also sees people of all walks of life and varied background and cultures making a unique blend.

Save the seed is a business, why should the government front funds to support it's day to day operations. I'm not looking at it from a political or religious point of view but rather from a business point of view. You don't start a business that you know isn't going to be able to sustain it'self with out government aid. If a grant is provided to this business then what is stopping any other business from making a case to obtain funds to run it??!!

So I should build my house and ask the Government to pay the mortgage then? Put programs in place to generate funds to run the place. Who benefits from the center should not mind contributing to the upkeep of it. Just saying!

The Sunday donations should amply cover expenses....Church and State are not meant to merge...Other Churches with functions for the youth are entitled to ask the Government for help as everyone else is doing the same...Something doesn't seem right. The parish attendees are the foundation of funds.......

Bad idea. When any Government gets involved in any private entity there is always a "falling out". Great facility but funds should be sought form other sources. Watching.....

another business, yes business gets in trouble and now the government has to bail them out? How many times is this going to happen, when you looked at the business plan, didn't you forsee the heavy cost of operating such a facility?

Wrong... It is just wrong for outright grants for a free enterprise and privately touted church affiliated project. As a voter of the BVI and supporter of the community, I would agree to funds raised by the church or IF an NGO like Rotary were to assist his fund raising events for such, but for a Bishop to be soliciting Gov't funds is a sign of what are the high expectations many unrealistic people in the BVI have of Gov't.

My two cents...nobody send tell u build it if you couldnt handle it. UP a businessman for all these use helping his father with the business, formerly Bobbinos Cinema now UPs and he hit a rough patch, you helped by investing in your own, killing his business even more. Now you want Govt help? How can our Govt help everyone and their business? How is our Govt to move forwardand do for the territory? If they keep financing everyone's wants? BULLS...t!

you should have known that when you ran UP out of biz. Get a grant for him also while you at it, and its shameful you didn't seek or apply for a grant on your own through the proper channels. instead you going sit down and say you ain't see no checks because Fraser said so. like realllllly?

while the motive of building was a good one, from a business standpoint, both the church and the facility are too big to be practical. Dreams are one thing, but one has to be realistic as to support and affordability. Sorry to say... it's a great idea. But it is also a private business and is it right to have taxpayer's money support a private business? just thinking outside the box. Government can't support everything. But I would rather them support this than push for an ugly and character-changing pier project.

But I hear Save The Seed charges for use. How much? Not enough? Does it go to the church or the centre? Bishop Cline, I think you need to read the bible again, especially Matthew 21:13. Jesus is giving a hint...

This is a typical, after the fact fight that both NDP and VIP have. Why not have the courage to invest in alternative energy supply? Instead, both parties continue to allow for fossil fuels to control the BVI. If the youth are in fact the most valuable asset, then give them clean air to breathe. If you want to save money, then stop paying for the monopoly that dirty fuels have. It's as if both NDP and VIP are living in an era 50 years ago.

The fact that you are expecting and waiting for a handout from the Gov to fund your private sectorenterprise, tells me that you and your business should be removed from the business of influencing children.
Failure of this business and its extinction would be a positive learning tool for children. Then it could be considered a success.

I agree that operating a facility like that can be costly especially when there is not enough sporting organizations to properly contribute to the upkeep by using it for a fee.
But no government should be giving any grant to the up keep when said government have facilities of its own and funding for the maintenance is not adequate.
So Mr. Cline should let the 3rd district rep.fund it for him from his personal bank account.

Call him what you want but Save the Seed was a good idea and Government should consider giving the Bishop a small grant of $150,000.00.

You said it, Save the seed WAS a good idea. And so were those huge dwellings now empty and wanting for paying tenants that Fraser lamented about the other day. Poor planning, execution and greed...well, When the Bishop comes down to earth, ask him to consul you about these vices.

It's uneducated morons like you who have this country the way it is.

Why should the Government inject money into the save the seed center knowingly the center is a set of private investors (Investment club) who will benefit from my tax dollars. I dont really understanding the Minister suggestion and Mr. Cline cry. I could understanding if the Government will inject money into the center which will benefit and encourage the community to join the center base on the amount of monies inject for the period specifically for the individuals who will like to use the facility but cannot afford it. Other than that, before you provide a grant to the center you should inject monies to UPS Complex first, he is a sole business man with the UPS Complex VS An investment Club at the center.
