No date yet for rehabilitation of Queen Elizabeth Park

- NPT soon to declare earnings from concert series
The Queen Elizabeth II Park was designated as a National Park in 1974 and is one of the oldest parks in the Virgin Islands.
ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- It is still not known when the planned reconstruction of the Queen Elizabeth II Park in Road Town will commence and also how much money the National Parks Trust (NPT) was able to get from its 50th Anniversary Concert Series held on November 26 and 27, 2011.

The National Parks Trust (NPT) had said that money raised from the recent Concert Series would lead to the phased and incremental restoration of the Queen Elizabeth II Park in 2012. “We anticipate the legacy of our 50 year celebrations will enable the rehabilitation and restoration of the Queen Elizabeth II Park and we expect to be able to make that park one of the territory’s premier green spaces and a huge attraction for residents and visitors alike,” Director of National Parks Trust, Joseph Smith- Abbott had said in October.

When contacted last week, however, Mr. Smith-Abbott said he could not make such information available and that a meeting would soon be held after which the public would be informed about the planned reconstruction of the park and the monies made from the concert.

Asked whether the public could expect similar collaboration with promoters to have more fundraisers held at the venue, Mr. Smith said he was also not in a position to say but would be after the planned meeting to which a date was not disclosed.

Previously, Mr. Donald deCastro had said he believed the Queen Elizabeth II Park should be utilised more often. Speaking on his radio programme Night Talk, which was aired on December 13, 2011, deCastro said he spoke to several persons including the Public Relations Officer of the BVI Health Services Authority about the recent concert and related that persons don’t seem to have a problem with events being held there on a regular basis.

Persons have long been expressing the view that the area, where the concert that featured John Legend and Ali Campbell was held, should be developed to host more activities including those of the August Festival.

The Queen Elizabeth II Park was designated as a National Park in 1974 and is one of the oldest parks in the Virgin Islands.

I cant understand why it duz take so long for people to count money after a major event, subsequently taking years to act on their promise. Look at HAITI!!!!!!!! So long ago millions and millions of dollars were raised to help HAITI, the kind of money I heard them calling, man you could have rebuilt an entire city. Months and months later, HAITI is in no better position than even before the earthquake. This is why people are always reluctant to donate, cuz no one wants to step up and give account for the money.

Frank was the one who earned LOL! The weather, cost and short time-frame for advertising was the downfall! Great lineup, too short notice. If they made $5,000.00 they made a lot.
