ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- A well-known fast-food establishment in Road Town, Tortola, was reportedly burglarised at the weekend, during the round-the-clock mandatory curfew.

According to reports reaching our newsroom, the perpetrator allegedly gained entry to Nito’s Food Van by shattering a glass window and carted off with food and other items, including a toilet room key.

One of the owners of the business establishment made the discovery of the burglary on March 30, 2020. The food van was reportedly secured on the evening of Friday, March 27, 2020.

Virgin Islands News Online was informed that when one of the owners visited the food van they were shocked to discover a glass window to the back of the bus shattered and the door opened.

On investigating, they reportedly discovered that the key to a toilet, along with an iPod, a container of coins, a lighter and quantity of soft drinks- both canned and bottled- was gone.

The matter was reported to the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF).

An investigation is said to be ongoing.

Our situation with Corona Virus is NOT creating these thieves. These people doing this are already criminals just waiting for situations when everyone's guard is down. Low lives just waiting to pounce. Hate them!!!!!

It's possible it may be one of the homeless persons on the street who survives everyday by begging. With everything shut down, no one to ask a dollar can lead to breaking and entering establishments for something to eat. Government would need to put something in place for those homeless persons where meals can be provided to them in this time of locked down.

That might also explain the need for the toilet key

Last week someone mentioned that the Health Minister should try and give the homeless on the street a hygienic package and water. It is a strong possibility that the homeless can be involved.

I’m convinced it’s the vagrants and junkies that committed the 2 burglaries during the lockdown. It’s harder to find people to beg for money and food so they have to resort to crime to survive. Think about it, they can’t hang around shops anymore because all are closed. They have no home to stay and eat and drink for the lockdown days but they still get hungry and thirsty like everybody else. Nobody in their right mind will go to that store in Main Street to rob whether there was a curfew or not. That store is not a good investment for any sensible thief. Robbing Neto after working hours is not something a thief like the ones that rob Riteway would do. You know there won’t be cash so the risk is greater than the reward.

The only way people is going to obey the curfew laws, the English Military is going to have to step in and I hope they do. The thieves is waking up from hibernation and plotting. They are going to start home invading soon even if you are home and start talking what they want. I hope we get some Military here soon to assist the local police.

Imagine this, them bums woke up on Saturday and the whole place empty. They probably didn't even know about the curfew. They probably wondered around Simply's and the other usual spots then just give up and went back in their hole until their belly start to burn then animal instincts kicked in.
