SEA COWS' BAY, Tortola, VI – The Territory’s most experienced and senior legislator, Former Premier of the Virgin Islands Honourable Ralph T. O’Neal OBE (R9) has spoken words of wisdom to residents sending the strong warning that the upcoming general elections are not to be taken lightly.

He was at the time addressing residents from across the Territory at the VIP’s community meeting which was held last night August 27, 2014 at the Valerie O. Thomas Community Centre, Sea Cow’s Bay, Tortola.

“I am telling you that the next elections [are] going to be the most difficult and we have got to learn to be together,” warned Hon O’Neal. He further advised, “If you’re VIP stay VIP.”

He was giving a background reflection of occasions in the past that had varied impact on the governance of the Territory that can be blamed for the state of affairs of today.

Speaking with the voice of wisdom and experience Hon O’Neal expressed that it is very important that leaders learn how to lead and how to follow. “The election that is coming up is going to be a tricky one,” he reiterated.

He also warned of the dubious trending behaviour of the current administration which he alleged has the habit of twisting things to suit their benefit.

“The enemy has a set of twisters and they are going to twist whatever you say. If you say one and one is two they are going to say one and one [is] three because they would want to remain in power and they wouldn’t want to see the Virgin Islands Party in power,” he said.

Hon O’Neal expressed his pleasure of being back on the campaign trail, one which he is confident the VIP will and must re-take the seat of government of the Virgin Islands (VI) but he stressed that supporters have to be prepared.

“The Virgin Islands Party has done an immense job,” he said to a respond of loud rounds of applause.

Throwing a ball at the current government administration Hon. O’Neal alluded to the fact that members of the NDP government will be seen positioning themselves at certain events and occasions like weddings and funerals but said that it is false as they would only be trying to show as if they care.

He admonished the audience to spread the word that the VIP is ready to take back the country’s leadership and that he has every confidence that Third District Representative and VIP Chairman Honourable Julian Fraser, RA is well poised for the position of Premier.

“Throw your whole weight behind Fraser... let your friends know that he can do the job,” said Hon. O’Neal.

President of the VIP Mr Carvin Malone reassured the audience that Hon. O’Neal has sincerely pledged to do all in his power to ensure that the VIP returns to power.

While I read such article I tend to gaze at the future ahead to assure myself that things can get better and they must get better. Seeing the Opposition in such a confident position makes you feel good, however I am still puzzled at the fact that our VG residents habe yet to see an overhaul of our priorities to ne placed in order of importance. It has been too long, overwhelming and unprofessionally out of character to neglect your own district and this I believe is what is being done. Yes I admit his healthcare is not in good standing however I am looking for the person that we're suppose to now throw the weight on and we have not seen such candidate step to the plate. As a Virgin Gordian I know we can do way better than this, I know our healthcare, education and tourism industries can be standardized to climb mountains and ensuring that our belongers are being taken care of in all aspectsof good governance. We are sslipping into holes that were once cracks and no one seems to pay filling these cracks and are allowing the earthquake of major factors adfect us as a people. Together we are one, we are looking for a leader to take our children far beyond measure and not a leader that just has a name and talks with a broom and a carpet during only election time.

They are politicians and as such, they do this. The same for the VIP and any other party, for that matter. They care about themselves only':not the people who elected them. Don't believe in any of them...

We want VIP back in power yes, but the thing is' regardless of who is in power , they always leave the outer islands behind. The whole infrastructure of vg is in a mess...roads, schools ports...just to name a few. We don't get any kind of representation at all. I guess some one will soon get the job to clear off the land next to the valley clinic again...Just saying, all this talk and no action is not going to work anymore. So yes I agree it's going to be a tough one.

Why would a person of so much experience tell the public that the NDP goes to every funeral & wedding when all of them do the same. I will like hearing what we will TRY doing to help the nation not critising the other group when you all made the same mistakes JESUS CHRIST you all need to go and sit down and get positive.
