ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – The first sport event of 2013 is scheduled to be one of the toughest as the Triathlon Federation will be hosting the inaugural Baugher’s Bay Aquathon on Saturday January 5, 2013.

In an attempt to introduce a whole new cadre of participants in multi sports events, the Triathlon Federation has decided to hold a series of Aquathons and Duathons utilizing the areas around the Tortola Sports Club and Baugher’s Bay.

Traditionally an Aquathon is a two-discipline race (as opposed to a Triathlon being three) featuring a swim and a run whereas a Duathon involves a bike ride sandwiched between two runs of varied lengths.

The Aquathon slated for Saturday at Baughers Bay starts at 7 A.M. with registration from 6:30 A.M. It comprises a short sprint 200m swim and 5k run.

At the end of January, there will be a Duathon starting from the TSC and comprising a 3k run, a 6k bike ride and a 5k run to finish.

Acting as a tune up for the TSC Sprint Triathlon in February, which athletes can enter individually or as a team, the Series ends on March 9 with the final Aquathon starting from 4 P.M. at Baugher’s Bay and concluding with a BBQ and Prize-giving.

In other Running news, the 2013 Calendar has also been released with the first events of the year being the Dive BVI 5k and the Blenheim 5k series, which kick off in VG on January 19 and on Tortola on March 2.
