NORTH SOUND, Tortola, VI - In less than a weeks’ time, contractors will be handing over the new Iris O’Neal Health Centre to the government of the day, bringing them closer to eliminating the need to rush certain cases by air or sea to the territory’s main hospital on Tortola.

The handing over date is currently set for February 22, 2019, the day after advance voting in the territory and two days before the final polling day February 25, 2019. Leader of the National Democratic Party1 (NDP1) Honourable Myron V. Walwyn (AL) and Junior Minister of Tourism Honourable Hubert R. O’Neal (R9) both broke the news last night February 12, 2019, while campaigning in North Sound on Virgin Gorda.

“We are about to commission the opening of the New Iris O'Neal Health Center in the Valley, Virgin Gorda. This is a big deal as it means that you will now have a beautiful new facility offering healthcare access around the clock, 7 days a week. No longer would you, my people, have to be rushed to Peebles Hospital for every emergency. This is progress! This is the NDP team and your representative working for you,” said Hon O’Neal.

Election Gift?

Further, Hon O’Neal promised that once re-elected he will continue to fight for the establishment of a rapid response, helicopter air ambulance service to get patients to the main hospital on Tortola. This is something he admitted to have been fighting for, from the time he first entered government some eight years ago.

However, critics said the opening of the facility without any proper staff or fitted out, is a plot to help Dr O’Neal in the upcoming elections, who is seen as the underdog in the three-man district race.

They also noted that the NDP promised the people of Virgin Gorda a mini hospital, however, all they have gotten is an expanded clinic.

Youths Cry for Land

Meanwhile, among other areas of promised development and new interventions for the Ninth District, Hon O’Neal said that he will be working feverishly to address the cries of youths who wish to own homes and land.

“The young families of Virgin Gorda and Anegada have been crying out for the opportunity to own their own homes. I have heard their cries and the NDP team have heard their cries. To this end, your NDP government gave out some 53 crown land leases to deserving young families in the Great Hill area of North Sound, Virgin Gorda in 2015.”

Many have also dismissed this as just another election gimmick.

@ one eye: the former minister of health spearheaded that project but all of us must be thankful for such a development: I personal wish those we elect will stop trying to take credit for projects(your mandate as a political leader is to develop our territory)

Whether you like it or not the former minister was part of the ndp governmenr. How he would get the funds who will have to aporove it the premier. You all need to think before you talk and use common sense it was that said minister made a choice to go. Also that was under his portfolio and that is what he suppose to do work with the district representaive bertie to get the clinic done. That is what you call working for the people not yourselves.

Vip supporters has a major lack of understanding. If you all had no clinic you all would have still be complaining learn to give jack it jacket.

@problem: You are the one with the lack of understanding! What Bertie had to do with the New Iris O'Neal Clinic when he was not even the Representative. The Representative was the Honourable Ralph T O'Neal who was present at the ground breaking in 2015 and who spoke. Bertie had not a thing to do with the project! Honourable Ronnie W Skelton is to be commended for the work he has done with the project. Many are given portfolios but fail to execute. At least he saw the great need in Virgin Gorda and did his best to execute the project. The Hand over ceremony is just a gimmick to make Bertie look good. GRATEFUL THANKS TO RONNIE W SKELTON!

@ truth Sayer: the individual using “problem” to post comments on VINO probably gets free eye examinations from the Current member: the last time I check it was ministers that execute given projects...I also think politicians have to stop taking credit and getting all egotistical over projects because it our tax money being used to fund these projects: these politicians have to understand they not doing the people any personal favours we put you in political office to develop our people and set up the Infrastructure such as emergency response units, health care, good public roads and education facilities: it’s the people tax being spent and not personal funds from any politician(however some of dem walking away with your tax money for their own personal consumption....but they not talking that on the campaign trail!!!!!)

Ok, the land talk is simply that, land talk...the premier mentioned in 2015 that they received a report in 2014 and now you are here in 2019 making that same promise!!!! No one got any lease from government, you that statement is incorrect!!! All they got was an acknowledgment letter with a ridiculous price set by your government, not even what the committee recommended... stop making these promises about land because you had a grand opportunity to distribute lands from your first day in office, now you have 2 weeks left and you are trying to fool the people again???

I like Myron personally I did not like how he handle the wall scandal, he chat too much came across as if nothing Wrong was done I wish he had just say " This is a serious allegation, i'm looking Into the matter ". but this is not a friendship thing. Its country first ...Ronnie is the right man ..I like Dancia a lot she has all the ingredients. The most qualified but I think.she lack the courage . The will . The love for all people ..
