New ESHS Library to be example to others
Government Ministers, At-Large Representatives, workers in the Ministry of Education, teachers, students and parents assembled to witness the re-opening of the library today June 12, 2012 where Hon. Walwyn disclosed that the library was his first decision made as Minister of Education.
Having already toured the new facilities, the Minister announced that the newly reconstructed library is to be made an example to other libraries. “The new library will be used as a model of how other libraries should be.”
He said the new library will encourage and actively support excitement in learning for the youths.
In reference to the vast collection of books the library is equipped with, the Minister said he is quite aware of some of the things the new library can provide is a bit irrelevant, seeing that other online sources that can be accessed at home, provides the same services.
He added that those web sources can now be accessed by students within the school, at any given time.
Hon. Walwyn told the attendees that the library is more than a place to store books and is a place where information can be accessed from any corner of the earth, a place where students can access free Wi-Fi internet on their personal devices, a quiet place than can be used as a study area or a place where students can sit and start or finish class work for submission.
In regards to the many services and forecasting the possible advantages that the new library will provide, Hon. Walwyn said it is money well spent.
He encouraged the students to take advantage of the new facilities, in hopes that it will further aid them in reaching their ultimate grades and further success.
“I urge you to utilise this facility as much as you can and use it so often that in a few years, once grades are higher and the competency of the students have further improved, I would have no problem asking the Minister of Finance for more money to renovate the facilities again.”
Also at the re-opening ceremony was Acting Premier Hon. Kedrick Pickering, where he gave remarks stating that he is pleased that Minister Walwyn made the library a top priority.
Commenting on the new facilities provided to the students of ESHS, Hon. Pickering said that the world is changing rapidly, but books can help the students to learn what has changed and how they can catch up.
The ribbon cutting was done by teacher of many years of ESHS, Ms. Jenny Wheatley.
