ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - No more will the students of the Elmore Stoutt High School (ESHS) have to journey to the Road Town public library to do research, no more will the parents be obligated to buy books that can aid their children in understanding a specific subject area, were the words of Hon. Myron Walwyn while giving his remarks at the re-opening of the ESHS Library and Resource Centre.

Government Ministers, At-Large Representatives, workers in the Ministry of Education, teachers, students and parents assembled to witness the re-opening of the library today June 12, 2012 where Hon. Walwyn disclosed that the library was his first decision made as Minister of Education.

Having already toured the new facilities, the Minister announced that the newly reconstructed library is to be made an example to other libraries. “The new library will be used as a model of how other libraries should be.”

He said the new library will encourage and actively support excitement in learning for the youths.

In reference to the vast collection of books the library is equipped with, the Minister said he is quite aware of some of the things the new library can provide is a bit irrelevant, seeing that other online sources that can be accessed at home, provides the same services.

He added that those web sources can now be accessed by students within the school, at any given time.

Hon. Walwyn told the attendees that the library is more than a place to store books and is a place where information can be accessed from any corner of the earth, a place where students can access free Wi-Fi internet on their personal devices, a quiet place than can be used as a study area or a place where students can sit and start or finish class work for submission.

In regards to the many services and forecasting the possible advantages that the new library will provide, Hon. Walwyn said it is money well spent.

He encouraged the students to take advantage of the new facilities, in hopes that it will further aid them in reaching their ultimate grades and further success.

“I urge you to utilise this facility as much as you can and use it so often that in a few years, once grades are higher and the competency of the students have further improved, I would have no problem asking the Minister of Finance for more money to renovate the facilities again.”

Also at the re-opening ceremony was Acting Premier Hon. Kedrick Pickering, where he gave remarks stating that he is pleased that Minister Walwyn made the library a top priority.

Commenting on the new facilities provided to the students of ESHS, Hon. Pickering said that the world is changing rapidly, but books can help the students to learn what has changed and how they can catch up.

The ribbon cutting was done by teacher of many years of ESHS, Ms. Jenny Wheatley.

Boss get your facts straight. The entire project was already started by the previous minister. The plans were already drawn, the contractor was already picked and the contract was already signed. If you dont believe me ask the principal, the assistant principal and many in the ministry. All that Myron did was allowed the project to go forward. He should have mentioned that today in his long winded speech. Also the before picture of the library is misleading. The picture was taken while they were packing up to clean out the area for demolition. Check your facts boy because you are way off. Oh and you can also ask the contractor who he signed the contract with.

As an academic librarian myself, if there is not the volume of books for proper high school research then the Minister is wasting his time and playing politics.

Great news! I am very concerned, though, that the main library, the Road Town Public Library is not easily accessible, especially to seniors. I am barely middle aged and I catch my royal climbing Jacob's Ladder to reach to the second floor of the building where this library is located. Each time I venture there, and it is often enough, my mind runs on the older folk who cannot easily visit this facility. What are the Government's plans on this? A sub station on the ground floor of a building which will be easily accessible to individuals with special needs and seniors, total relocation to another building or is a lift bring installed? Even a handbasket will help in these circumstances. This needs to be addressed, and soon, for this facility is not being utilized to its full potential at its present location. Reading is the key to all knowledge, but even though we have the key in our hands we cannot open the door due to the problem identified above. Help, please!!!

It is just amazing that these miserable VIP supporters are trying to give Andrew credit for this! No matter who started what, it seems that Myron is more of a go-getter and some people just can't handle that...
