“There will be people who love you and want you to do their will but they wouldn’t support your creativity, but don’t you give up. Everything that has ever been invented, ever created, everything that has ever revolutionized the way we live there are people to tear that adventure down so don’t let those people stop you,” she said. ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – The Elmore Stoutt High School (ESHS) held their official opening ceremony for the ‘BVI Senior Students’ Career Expo 2015’ today February 9, 2015 and the presentation of an address by a young woman left the audience, comprised of the student body, in awe.

The senior students were all smartly dressed to showcase their chosen professions, from that of a nurse to the ordinary industrial worker, the teacher to the lawyer, just to mention a few.

The element of surprise that resulted in the various gestures and emotional expressions by persons in the audience was fueled by what the young entrepreneur had to tell them. Her name is Ms Ariana Forbes, known to be an accomplished athlete, but up to this morning, had a story to tell that was obviously never heard or imagined by many present.

Ms Forbes did not only tell the audience how to save a dollar from every five dollars one gets, or that one must show one’s self approved for the job market, but she first told them of her life story, one that was filled of pains of every form.

However, in spite of it all today Ms Forbes is the holder of the national record for the 100 meter hurdles, she ranked among one of the fastest female hurdlers in the USA in 2009, academically she holds a degree in criminal justice and today is the founder of Unlimited Fitness.

“There will be people who love you and want you to do their will but they wouldn’t support your creativity, but don’t you give up. Everything that has ever been invented, ever created, everything that has ever revolutionised the way we live there are people to tear that adventure down so don’t let those people stop you,” she told the students.

She further advised, “The idea that you would come up with that would change the world wouldn’t just pop into your head just like that, it would be the bump in the night, the thing that wakes you out of your sleep…. Don’t just shove it off as a crazy idea, get out of bed, run out of the shower, where ever you are… write it down, let it flow.”

Her unique profession of promoting fitness, not in a gym but one that meets you wherever you are was one that was admired by Minister for Education and Culture Honourable Myron V. Walwyn who challenged the students to be creative as they pursue their various careers of choice.

An example of two young men who used their creative talent to inspire their peers did not go un-noticed by the Education Minister has he had his own element of surprise for the two, presenting to them an iPad each for their visionary work. The young men had produced a promotional video which they shared on their Facebook page and which has since been making waves on social media.

wow y'all are so ungrateful. its the students turn to shine ! why y'all have to turn every positive thing to some negative nonsense ! Right now it doesn't matter about politics its about the students ... i don't understand how u can make something about the students and future rulers of the BVI turn into politics and why NDP would never make it again or that the Minister of Education is just doing it to get attention or props, this is why we could never have world peace cause we as humans are jealous and ungrateful

I must say thank you Ms. Forbes for being so bold to speak about your challenges and victories. There are to many children here in the BVI who are depressed, hurting deep inside and are crying out for help. But we can't hear nor see them because we are so busy pulling down people to make ourselves feel good.

The minister being to a school function is not about him getting a photo opt people. Let's do what needs to be done for our youth, without making it political.

We had a young person commit suicide and no one can truly say why, yet we listen to a young lady share her story about overcoming abuse, insecurity and finding the strength to be great and the only thing some you can comment on is the NDP or the VIP. Let's have some dignity people.
