ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – On Sunday November 29, 2015, VP Bank and Premier Tennis, in conjunction with the Necker Cup, are bringing back the popular annual Necker Cup Tennis Kids Day to Tortola Sports Club (TSC).

Also returning will be the famous tennis entertainment duo, Wayne Bryan and Murphy Jensen. The event, scheduled to run from 12:00 PM and finish at 4:00 PM, is free for children of all ages.

The event will start with free tennis coaching and games by the TSC tennis staff followed up the tennis show by Wayne Bryan and Murphy Jensen. “As in the previous years, the children will be able to enjoy on-court exercises, games, and other activities during the first hour with our coaches, high performance junior players and volunteers before Wayne and Murphy arrive.

“The main goal is to introduce new children to the sport of tennis and to provide fun atmosphere for everyone to enjoy,” said Amine Elouazzani, TSC Director of Tennis.

Wayne Bryan is an American tennis coach, author, and speaker. He is the father and former coach of twin brothers, Mike and Bob Bryan, who are the current No. 1 doubles team in the world and the most successful professional doubles team in the tennis history.

“Murphy and I love coming over for the Tennis Kids Day during the Necker Cup week. We have lots of fun with the kids and it brings big joy to us to see them on the court hitting the balls, smiling, as well as competing as teams or individuals during our mini games and fun challenges. This will be our third year in the row already and we can’t wait to see familiar and new faces too,” said Bryan.

Murphy Jensen is an American former professional tennis player who won French Open doubles title in 1993. He is also an award-winning coach of the World Team Tennis professional league as the coach of Washington Kastles. Murphy has also hosted several programs on the Tennis Channel and acted in the movie Wimbledon.

“Working with kids is always special and Tennis Kids Day is one of my most favorite events. Wayne and I do many Tennis Kids Days over the year in different places and coming to BVI is memorable every time. The turnout in the past two years has been fantastic. The children come with lots of positive energy and enthusiasm and it makes is so much fun for Wayne and I,” said Jensen.

For the third consecutive year, VP Bank is a patron of the Necker Cup and the lead sponsor of the Necker Cup Tennis Kids Day. “The last two editions of the Tennis Kids Day have been such a hit and we are so excited to support this unique event again,” said Sjoerd Koster, General Manager – Client Business of the VP Bank.

“Wayne Bryan and Murphy Jensen make such an incredible show for the kids to participate in and for the parents to sit back and enjoy. Last year over 80 children ages 3 to 16 from Tortola and Virgin Gorda participated. This year we anticipate the same and more and also hope that children from Anegada and Jost Van Dyke can make it over too. It has become a family day to look forward to and at the same time it provides a wonderful opportunity to further promote the sport of tennis in the territory.”

Wayne Bryan’s and Murphy Jensen’s presence at the Necker Cup Tennis Kids Day is made possible by Premier Tennis, the promoter of the Necker Cup. “We couldn’t be happier for the Necker Cup Tennis Kids Day to develop into this consistent and popular event in the BVI tennis community,” said Trevor Short, Co-Founder and President of Premier Tennis.

“Wayne and Murphy are rock stars of the tennis entertainment world and make a long lasting impression but the success of this event is also very much thanks to the wonderful children in the BVI who are eager to learn or improve their tennis game.”

More opportunities to be part of Necker Cup events!

In addition to the Tennis Kids Day, Necker Cup and VP Bank will enrich the VI tennis community by providing two more opportunities for children in the VI to be part of the Necker Cup events.

Mike Richards, CoFounder of the Necker Cup, informed: “As in the past two years, we will give opportunity to children to be the ball-kids for the Necker Cup finals on December 2 on Necker Island. It is a unique opportunity for children as they will be performing ball-kids duties for current professional tennis stars and legends. Three children from each BVI tennis programme – i.e. Tortola Sports Club, Long Look East End Tennis Club, and Virgin Gorda Tennis Academy – have been selected and will undergo ball-kids specific training under the supervision of Amine Elouazzani, Director of Tennis at the Tortola Sports Club.”

Richards added: “We are also excited about a tournament for 14 and Under boys in the BVI, which will take place on November 28 at the Tortola Sports Club, sponsored by VP Bank and organized by the BVI Tennis Association (BVI TA). The winner will get to come over to Necker Island on December 2 and play against a boy from the United Kingdom (UK), who won the Junior Necker Cup in the UK. Moreover, partial proceeds from the auction at the Necker Cup will benefit the BVI TA, who in turn supports various tennis programs in the BVI.”
