‘NDP saying things going well while people catching hell!' – Hon Fahie

-said VIP will restore hope in the economy and democracy; party will not be defined by its detractors but by its record

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – First District Representative and Senior Member of the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) Honourable Andrew A. Fahie said that while the National Democratic Party (NDP) Government continues to paint a rosy picture of the economy, people on the ground are finding it difficult to get by.

He was speaking last night November 26, 2014 on the VIP’s radio show ‘Let’s Talk’ aired between 8:00 PM and 9:30 PM on ZBVI 780 AM.

“There are too many of our people losing hope and as leaders it is our responsibility to keep hope alive and well in our people, in our country and in our economy,” Hon Fahie said.

“The Virgin Islands Party has always been the party of hope and prosperity for the people of the Virgin Islands. We in the Virgin Islands Party are more focused than ever,” he said.

“We intend to be even more steadfast in purpose and diligent in action as we represent the people of the Virgin Islands and do things in the best interest of the people,” he said, calling the people the greatest resource of the Territory.

“When the people of the country are doing well then that translates into the Territory doing well. It is impossible in my book for any Territory to boast of doing well when the reality on the ground clearly shows that the people are quote unquote catching hell,” he said.

“There will always be challenges but the Virgin Islands Party has and aims to continue to turn these challenges into opportunities for the people of the Virgin Islands and for generations unborn,” he said.

“Hope is not a light word…we have to restore and renew hope in our people of the Virgin Islands and hope in the Virgin Islands themselves. Our aim is to restore hone in the public service, restore hope in the economy and hope even in our democracy,” he said.

He said that the party will not let anyone’s opinion of them become their reality. “We will not be defined by them…we will be defined by the facts of our records and not the way others want to interpret it,” he declared.

Where are the solutions Mr. Fahie? You cannot reduce tax, give everyone jobs, contracts etc. and fix an economy. Wheeeel and come again, you had 11-2 majority last time and you squandered it. Get away, we don't want you guys running our country ever again!

Mr. Fahie seems to have forgotten when VIP was in office, the same people were wailing in the streets for the injustices they felt against them. When NDP won the election people were dancing in the streets and smiling and talking to people they didn't even know. The felt rejuvenated. So Mr Fahie, how is the VIP any better than the NDP? All you fooling yourselves if you think things are going to change for the better just because you feel your team will be in. Same old stuff, just another year. No matter who is in office the only thing that will help the people is fairness for all of us an not just those you pass envelopes to. You all need to stop putting your hand in the cookie jar and let that money be spent on the needy. Better roads, better education, lower prices, acknowledgement from our Politicians who don't even know the people in their districts and won't even take the time to visit them. All these things makes us feel hopeless.

The NDP government is saying that the economy is robus the VIP is revorting that this observer is saying that none of the above is telling the truth.
I was driving this morning and I have to drive in the middle of the road to avoid my jeep getting scratched ft the bushes that over in our streets

Why isn't the government not paying attention to this matter? Why not give out some petty contracts to have the roads clean to say the least. It was the same thing when the VIP was in they even used concrete to patch holes in the road instead of asphalt. I hope the PEP will do better when we elect them just saying

I agree with you observer it's sickening but I heard some contracts will be issued soon to gut the bush along the main roads especially. They need to issue those contracts every 3 months to keep the bush at a manageable level.

On the matter of electing PEP, you must be kidding? What have they said any different to the rest? Alvin, Sowande and Lorie can form a Government? well well

Where do you live? Every day I am driving back and fort from East End to Sea Cows Bay, around the coast line and through Belle Vue. There are private contractors cutting the bush, there is Waste management personnel cutting the bush. There are Public Works Department men Patching Pot Holes. My business is mostly out of the office I am always moving round, I see this constantly.

Who feels it knows it, people here living from pay cheque to pay cheque, landlords waiting for their rents, banks falling behind because of diliquent payments on loans, obviously social development helping who they want, we have a government telling us everything ok. I dont know what window they look out from. People stop begging for help because this is a Government that aint giving none, many are unemployed, where is the poverty assesment report that tells the truth, the cost of living so high, they soon going increase certain taxes, fees at the hospital increase, the NHI coming in April, what next, you all going make people so some things in this place, besides kill themselves. Then next they coming out to tell you all they did for the territory fa la la la la.

Stop telling lies! First of all, every country in the world is trying to battle back from the recession. This is one of the only Governments in the world that are still hiring and haven't laid off one worker. NDP gave us the first and only Youth Unemployment Register/Services. They gave us the only Small Business Bureau. They are pushing for National Health Insurance so all persons will have access to care. They gave us a state of the art Technical School. When you say they don't help, what do you mean? You want them give you money every time you ask? Let's be real. If you have a good business idea or need assistance with something, you will get it under this Government which is tested and proven. Only propagandists talk that foolishness. The facts are there and they are clear. Millions have already been loaned to locals to develop their small businesses, they got training via seminars and workshops. VIP did none of that, all they did was give out inflated contracts, didn't teach people how to manage their money and when the revenue dried up, everyone was left looking around wondering what the fuck just happened. Let's not be emotional about it, look at the facts.

Andrew, I see young people starting new businesses everyday, with many featured right here on VINO. Things are not the best, but they're not the worst like you are trying to state either. Things are happening and the Government of the day is assisting small businesses with funding that they couldn't get at the regular banks.

Speak for yourself. I am a young person who have been trying to do a business and applied for assistance but because I do not support the NDP I got no help. What Fahie is saying sounds hard but it is the truth for most of us.

For the pass decade the chairman for PEP was begging the VIP and the NDP about their spending habits and non of them study he. The only thing they did was to fire he. Ralph and Orlando did not listen and put the country in more debt look at when he told VIP not to take the 15 million from CBD what they did? Can you remember? Look when he told NDP about the water rights at Norman Island what they did? You remember?
Look people don't forget because some of you getting a little favour you have to remember that the Virgin Islands are bigger than you.

It's country first let the NDP fix the infrastructure and cut out all the rhetoric and work for the people. It's we who put them there because the VIP was doing nonsense and now they come doing the same and even worst that's why we will choose PEP over them. Wait you will see

The crucial question for us is; how we keep the NDP out of power for ever!!

Andrew you took the matter of future employment of our youths by deliberately dumbing them down. These young folks have demonstrated that they are educated illiterates. They are not employable in jobs that require reading writing and
Logical thinking. Their ability is solely to swallow your untruths and vote for you but your political future is soon to end so u an dem need to get another reality.

Stop blaming the government and always looking for hands out. Check the economy in other countries. We need to ban together and help one another. We did it in the past and we can do it again. Let us make the necessary adjustments.
