NDP not delivering as promised – Mr McLloyd Walters
Mr Walters, a local contractor, was a fearless liberal guest on ‘The Vigilate Dialogue with Shaina M. Smith’ aired last night, Thursday December 12, 2013 on CBN Channel 51. The TV show guest, prompted by the host Ms Smith, was very analytical for both the NDP and the VIP and the workings of governments and politics, speaking to what he sees as the root causes for their failures.
In reviewing the main and only two parties visible in the VI today, NDP and VIP, Mr Walters opined that it is the view of the majority that both parties are not doing enough in the interest of the country. “The Virgin Islands Party has brought the British Virgin Islands up to a certain point…The case of NDP party, they started out with a good agenda, they said it’s time for a change and most people agreed, it certainly a time for a change. Because the other party, they seem not to be responding to our needs or to the needs of the larger population,” said Mr Walters.
But he noted that while looking even today at the written agenda of the NDP it is one that can be described as a great one. “It says a lot of nice things but I believe the reality of what is promised and what is delivered they are not in alignment. There is a credibility gap in terms of what is promised and what our expectations are.”
According to Mr Walters, the Virgin Islands Party has not responded to the changing condition and the changing demands of the electorates. Some of the shortcomings of the VIP as highlighted by the talk show guest were its inability to respond to the youth population and those of re-migrants. “It seems even so today, the VIP has not found a way in which to respond within the party and to respond to the realities.”
“….The issues to the working class and the middle class person in the community, we often find that those issues are not being addressed.” To justify this, he cited the example of the sorry state of the East End community which he side is in a state of ‘sorry neglect’ when compared to other communities across the territory. “You find that there are so much inequalities in societies,” he said.
Finding ways and strategies to ensure and get governments to work in the interest of the working middle and lower class people of the territory have been highlighted as one of the fundamental problems that exist today. “If we look at the political situation in the BVI today, I think that a fair majority of persons have the feeling that the political system, the politics, is not quite working in the interest of the majority of persons in the community,” said Mr Walters.

I believe the NDP needs to bridge the gap immediately and if not they will be a one term government and I believe that VIP needs to find its way and if not they will retain the opposition. Nuff said.
