ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - The ruling National Democratic Party (NDP) of Premier and Minister of Finance Dr. the Honourable D. Orlando Smith (AL) continues to face harsh criticisms from the public, the Governor, civil society and the media for the poor handling of the Territory's finances, allegation of corruption and lack of good governance and transparency.

Another voice has joined the blasting of the Government and its ways. In a national radio broadcast on Monday, May 23, 2017, on a local radio station, Mr. Ishmael E. Brathwaite who ran for political office many times has spoken out.

Mr. Brathwaite, who ran as an At-Large independent candidate in the 2015 Virgin Islands (VI) general election, alleged that the NDP administration continues to ignore the needs of Virgin Islanders, and should be held responsible for the downfall of the people.

In addition, the businessman claimed that the current government continues to lie to the electorate, having no shame, no sense of patriotism, as well as no commitment to the economic future of Virgin Islanders.

NDP give me no help in purchasing RTW-Brathwaite

The Founder of the People’s Democratic Party said he made an attempt to purchase RoadTown Wholesale (RTW) and his offer was rejected but got no help from the Government once it was brought to their attention. Therefore, he has called for Government to ‘repeal’ the trade licence approved for a Canadian company to operate RoadTown Wholesale.

Brathwaite said the anti-local stance reportedly taken by the management of RTW was brought to the attention of the Premier’s wife, Lorna G. Smith, however, after many promises nothing was done. He also accused the NDP government of being more concerned about foreign bodies and international investors, rather than their own people.

In the same radio broadcast, the businessman who is the husband of Sheila N. Brathwaite, the VI Complaints Commissioner, told radio listeners that even in answering questions in the House of Assembly shows "that this government has lost its direction and consequently has become redundant and irrelevant”.

NDP must resign

He also said another example of the Government’s incompetence is how he was allowed to be treated over the same RTW purchase and claimed to have been given a higher purchase price to discourage him from purchasing the food chain.

The indigenous Virgin Islander called on the government to "immediately tender their resignation to the electorate of this Territory or be involuntarily removed”.

The word compromise don't exist for then. That's why and the one reason why I like NDP. They are untitled group... Inspire of all the hoop law.. I truly admire their stay together, another party done fell apart.

NDP has made sme missteps along the way but I think overall they are a good Government. All the people asking for NDP to go have one thing in common and thats personal agendas. Everyone is screaminf new party in the hopes they get their people on the inside to do their bidding. The very behavior thats being called corrupt and criminal now is the same behavior they aspire to replicate. These people will either bring a viable alternative slate or just hush.

I agree with Ishmael as future generations won't have kind words and sympathy for us and the voters when they'll suffer from our inaction

New party Need New leader. Any New party with #3 at the top will fail. Take my stupid and wise advice. Start your new party with Either P Romney or C Dawson at the top...That's the way forward... Or have them 1 and 2. Put both of them up and Vote amongst yourself as to who will be at the top and the other be an Automatic # 2.......Stay away from District #2 and 3 as your party leader.... NDP will win with any of those two at the top.

Fraser is the only leader now who got the balls to do what is right for the people of the VI. They don't like him, but he sees beyond the crookedness of these Oppressors
