CAPOON’S BAY, Tortola, VI – First District Representative and senior member of the Virgin Islands Party Honourable Andrew A. Fahie accused the National Democratic Party ((NDP) Government of trying to shut down the First District by abandoning key projects there.

He was speaking last night January 24, 2015 at the Capoon’s Bay Recreational Grounds during the presentation of his First District Annual Report.

“By now you would know that there are certain things in this district that needs government’s input. By now you would have heard or been told that I have -- and continue to ask -- this Administration about some of the concerns the People of the First District have as it relates to certain projects,” Hon Fahie said.

“Unfortunately, I have to report tonight that the answers -- in the few times they have decided to answer – have either been evasive or at best have been half baked,” he said.

Ho noted that some of the projects of which he spoke were started under the last Administration. “In spite of the urgency of many of them, three years later, they are either unfinished or abandoned,” he said.

“In this section of my report it is my duty to examine the actions of the Government and let you know my findings. Some of you my people will appreciate it while others will rather that I do not speak of it. But as leaders you are not only held accountable for what you do but also for what you do not do,” he said.

“For far too often I am left to conclude that this Administration has decided to shut down, cut down and cut out the First District. As a matter of fact it seems as if that is the intent for any district that does not have a representative that is part of their political party. But this NDP policy of economic lynching will soon be brought to an end by the very people they have pressured,” he said.

Shut down or cut down

“It has been an NDP scorched-earth policy of vindictiveness and vengeance. Don’t take my word for it. Let us do a checklist now together as a people. Are you ready? Here we go:

The project to fix under Frenchman’s Cay Bridge: SHUT DOWN

The First District Police Station in West End: SHUT DOWN

The Fire Station for the First District here in Capoon’s Bay: SHUT DOWN

The contract for a First District contractor to dispose of the garbage in the entire First District: SHUT DOWN

The transportation service for the seniors in the District to be shuttled to and from the clinic here in Capoon’s Bay among other areas: SHUT DOWN

The project to complete the works on the Capoon’s Bay drainage project: SHUT DOWN

The transportation service funds for transporting seniors to the Abraham Leonard Community Center: CUT DOWN

Repairs to the Towers Dock: SHUT DOWN

Completion of the modernization of the Sopher’s Hole Jetty: SHUT DOWN

The District vote: CUT DOWN."

“Now you know my brothers and sisters that when next we come to vote, we must also shut down and cut down this current administration,” said Hon Fahie to loud applause and cheers from the audience.

“It is crystal clear that once it pertains to government projects in this district they have either shut them down or cut them down with the view of trying to knock down your representative. But your representative will not bow down. Although I am now lighter than ever I am still your heavy weight fighter,” he said, pointing to his success in bringing his weight under control.

“I know we cannot get everything we want. But after three years it is safe to say that First District has been treated as an unwanted step child by this administration,” he said.

“We have not just been left behind; we have been cut off, in a policy that is seethed in vindictiveness and vengeance,” said Hon Fahie.

It's disappointing that attacks, rather than critical analysis, has become the norm. A campaign would be so much more interesting if it were about issues.

You only reading this exert. If you heard the speech in its entirety you would have a totally different view. This is just a very small segment of Fahie's speech. He charted a lot of innovative way forward.

It is clear to see that until election in March 2016, the NDP bloggers will be very active more so on VINO. Unfortunately VIP bloggers can't blog on Platinum as they are selective on what they print.

They trying to shut down the third district too. Nothing is being done in the third. It is like we are not an integral part of the territory. They will get what is coming to them election day.
