ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Talk show co-host and political activist Natalio D. Wheatley aka Sowande Uhuru said that the Territory has not done a very good job in controlling expenditure and this he feels is a better strategy than trying to raise revenue on the backs of people already suffering.

He was speaking last night November 19, 2014 during a special radio show on ZBVI examining the 2015 budget which was on Monday November 17, 2014 presented during the Second Sitting of the Fourth Session of the Second House of Assembly. The other co-host of the show was Doug Wheatley.

“Sometimes I feel that the revenue that we have, we have it despite some of the actions by our leaders,” he said.

“The thing that our leaders have a lot of control over is the expenditure. And in my humble opinion we have not done a good job of controlling expenditure. Expenditure has risen exponentially at a very quick pace and we have done very little to stop it and that is the main issue we have because you hear people bawling out in the community about times being hard but yet every year our revenue has risen,” he said.

“This year it is $311 million last year it was $302,” he said. “Between 2003 when it was $191 million to 2010 it went up just about just about $80 million but the problem is, at the same time that revenue is going up, expenditure is also going up,” he said.

He said that in 2003 expenditure was $177 million and in 2010 it goes up to $250 million and today it is $278 million. “In the course of ten years expenditure has risen $100 million. Can we see it?” asked Wheatley.

“So even though the revenue is rising, you can’t really feel it because you’re spending so much, and for the amount of money you’re spending the average taxpayer is not seeing the benefits of it,” said Wheatley.

“The roads need fixing, schools need upgrading, you need to fix the water system, the electricity system. You need to do a number of different things that you have failed,” he said. He slammed the Government’s plan to raise taxes as a means of raising revenue instead of seeking effective ways of cutting down on expenditure.

It is true the Government does not have a money problem they are always collecting their budget but they have a spending problem

They are always spending for what is not in their manifesto. Look at the roads electricity water and schools these are what Governments have to take care of firstly and they are not doing a good job at them

Crazy man - the Gov't can only spend the money that it raises or borrow and saddle future generations with debt.
It is difficult to take somebody serioulsy when that perso insists that he be referred to by a made up name rather than the name his partents gave him.

So I guess you think Malcolm X was a "crazy man" too ? How about Muhammad Ali ? How about William Jefferson Blythe (former President of the United States, Bill Clinton) ? #1 - changing your name does NOT automatically make you crazy. #2 - what does this man's name or the name he prefers to be called has to do with his political opinion ?!

What is this guy's track record? What are his accomplishments? Why should we vote for him? Does he understand economics? Has he ever worked for a government agency to see how things work? Can we send him to Hong Kong, UK and elsewhere to represent us without being laughed off the stage? Cut the sweet talk and tell us why we should vote for you. Ndp gave their budget, tell us what you will do differently or put a sock in it.

checking the budget and living within ones means is basic 101. Every family knows about limited income and plans for it. Taxpayers are not an unlimited financial stream for government follies. There is great waste in government employment and structure, graff, paying off vendors etc. But no one is holding anyone accountable because the violators are those very people that are in places of authority. The question is how do you change the culture of expectations?

People are being held accountable all right- the poor and small people-

Now speaks an expert! What does Sowande know about finance or business? He only ever hold down a part time government job and he want to tell how to spend all our money. In times of recession we need be careful who holds the purse strings.

I wonder if the people in authority knows that a large percentage of the population dont pay any income tax, because their employers states that they are making 10 ,000 or less so these people lives on the backs of people like you and I who pay our taxes.this is one way the govt can look into to raise revenue

I told you all that the worst is yet to come. Many didn't believe me but Sowande hit it right on the head.

Tax the poor. Free pass for the rich, and let's get the capital projects going so we can collect our cut backs.

THIS IS A MASSIVE MISTAKE BY THE NDP GOVERNMENT AS THEY ENHANCE THE POCKETS OF THE RICH AND INCREASE THE NUMBERS OF THE POOR AND ELIMINATE THE MIDDLE CLASS.

THE RESIDENTS OF THIS COUNTRY WILL BE PULLING THEIR HAIR OUT OF THEIR SKIN AFTER PAYING FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE NDP HIGH ROLLERS.

REMOVE THE NDP IN THE NEXT GENERAL ELECTION OR YOU WILL BE DOOM!

Remove them and elect who? That's the real question! All others running their mouth, what will they do different? NDP is better than all the rest by far.

What about the ones who are full of "stubbornness”, “arrogance”, “indifference” and a Government that is “completely out of control”.
