‘NDP full of political vindictiveness!’ – Hon Andrew A. Fahie

SEA COWS’ BAY, Tortola, VI – “We could have already have the sewerage fixed, we could have already have the water situation fixed,” said member of the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) and Representative of the First District Honourable Andrew A. Fahie.

“Why do I say that? In 2006 from there on, out of political vindictiveness they fired the company that was doing the sewerage… Because the man was with the Virgin Islands Party, call it what it is, and the courts went through arbitration and came to realize that it was an illegal firing, but you wouldn’t hear that; you only hearing that we got money for what we didn’t do,” he said.

Hon Fahie was at the time sifting through a number of challenges the Territory has been plagued with because of the Government’s poor administration and management style in his address to residents at the Valerie O. Thomas Community Centre, Sea Cows’ Bay where they had met residents on August 27, 2014.

He recalled that in 2006 the National Democratic Party (NDP) had signed a contract with a company called Global Water Associates. “…And anybody who has been listening to me from 2006 to now in the House knows that I am speaking about this contract that everybody seems to be ignoring but you can’t ignore something that was signed,” he said.

In the very year of 2006 the NDP allegedly went on to sign a contract with Global Water Associates to pay $20 per thousand gallons, to refine sewerage water to make it good enough to throw in the sea.

“And while they were signing with global water for $20 per thousand gallons, the very Ocean Conversion that they like to claim that we were the ones against, they got a consultancy company to reduce that from $13 and change to per thousand gallon to $6 and change without even negotiation with them...” recalled Hon Fahie.

He said in the light of all that there were some specific things that were necessary to have been done based on the contract with Global Water Associates which were not done. “Now all of a sudden I understand this contract is being looked at and is in arbitration and the minimum amount of money the government loses is $20ml plus…,” he said.

Hon Fahie contended that had the NDP government at that time taken care of the sewerage using the local company the state of affairs of things would have been better today. “You have to make sure you take care of your people and don’t play politics with them,” said Hon Fahie.

I think mr Fahie who calls himself a christian should tell the truth.Global water was for sewage and not water
and it was signed by global water president and one of Mr Cyril Romney's daughter so which makes this not
an foreign company. The company he claimed ndp fired was not actually fired, the contract was terminated
because the owner didn't want to work with the govt.this sewage problem did not happen yesterday it
happened by govt letting people build houses with certain size septic tanks turn around and add more apts
not increase the size of the septic to accomadate the new apts then what do you get.

Stop lying on Fahie. I was to the meeting & he specifically stated that Global water was for sewage not water. Also no matter who signed the contract it was an ill concieved contract that was designed to be a failure even before signing.

Who cares who own global water. Did the vip.government ignore a contract that was signed yes or no? If the answer is no then they should pay. As much as ndp.didnt like biwater they had to suck it up because a binding contract was signed. Contracts are not ndp or vip. They are govt contracts that have to be honored once signed no matter who is in power. Lets cut the crap and speak the facts. If uou breach a contract you pay the costs!
  • @LOL (30/08/2014, 08:35) Like (2) Dislike (1) Reply
You are 100% correct but that is not what Fahie is saying. The man is saying that had NDP taken care of Ocean Conversion & the other local company that was contracted by Government to do the sewage & not play politics from in 2003 to 2007 then we would have never heard about or have to pay neither Global Water or biwater & normally I don't but this time I 100% agree with Fahie on this one.
