‘NDP failed miserably on Cruise Pier project’ – Hon Fraser

-says his concerns have nothing to do with a lust for power nor is it a threat to reverse decisions of any Government

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Chairman of the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) Honourable Julian Fraser RA (R3) is convinced that the National Democratic Party (NDP) administration has failed miserably on the cruise pier development project in terms of transparency, accountability and good governance.

He said so in a statement today January 21, 2015 on the project in which he expressed a number of concerns and called on the Government to safeguard the hard earned investment of the people of the Virgin Islands.

“This is my first message of this New Year, and it is my intention to make clear the Virgin Island Party's position with regard to the Tortola Pier Park Project,” he said.

“The main objective in coming before you today, is indeed to safeguard your hard earned investments, and the interests of our children, grandchildren and generations still to be conceived,” said Hon Fraser.

He noted that the concerns expressed are not about "the lust for power", nor is it about "a threat to reverse the decisions of any Government".

“This broadcast is about convincing the National Democratic Party Government that the hard earned investments of the people of the Virgin Islands can only be protected if properly planned, properly tendered, properly funded, properly constructed and properly administered,” he said.

He said that the NDP continually boasts that they were the ones who amended the Financial Management Act; signed the Protocol for Effective Financial Management; and are the guardians of Good Governance, Transparency and Accountability.

“It is however, the opinion of many, myself included, that to-date they have failed miserably on each of these counts as it concerns the Cruise Ship Pier Development Project,” he said, noting that time alone will bear-out these truths.

“It is a known fact that the Virgin Islands Party Government were the ones to build the Cruise Ship Pier; complete the first extension of the Cruise Ship Pier; built the tender Dock; repaired the main Cruise Ship Pier; and initiated the plans and activities for the extension of the Cruise Ship Pier to facilitate the berthing of the new era of Cruise Ship. The NDP's claim that the VIP is intent on destroying the Cruise Pier Development Project is unfounded, unwarranted, and without merit,” said Hon Fraser.

“This claim is a mere distraction of their total failure as it relates to this project. The question is --- Can anyone fully define the project or the development in which the public is being invited to invest?” asked Hon Fraser.

When contacted today for a further comment on his statement, Hon Fraser told our newsroom that after several days of “NDP propaganda and a feeble attempt” to define the VIP's position on the Cruise Ship Pier Development Project, “I thought it high time that I put an end to this endless spin by the Premier and his gang of trying to mislead the hardworking tax paying Citizens of this Territory into loading their hard-earned money on to some Special Purpose vehicle that is going nowhere.”

He said: “The people of the Virgin Islands aren't asking for much. All they want are basically two things.
1. For someone to fully define the project or the development in which the public is being invited to invest? And
2. Mr. Premier, the people are watching you Sir, and are demanding that you answer for this scheme sooner rather than later.”

Wize up the cruise ship pier is the hot debate right now. Bi-water is already clearly defined and the Governor said the sea cows bay project will be investigated. Let up stop turn a blind eye to what is really taking place here. This project is set to hurt the entire nation in the long run because it is not properly plan and not been properly executed. This is a project for the rich and only them is stand to benefit. Fraser is right, we the people needs to know all about this project, stop the Micky mouse game.

Let us also reject the notion that to oppose the ponziee scheme is not to support the Ports Development Project a position usually advanced by many including sections of the media, The NDP cowbirds and the $40.00 Minister and his team of Bloggers.

Cruise ship passengers don't spend money at shops around cruise ship docks, they go on tours and spend their money elsewhere. Please people check your neighbors next door i did it, sorry for those who invest already. This comment is not base on politics it's facts. .

OMG!! The NDP bloggers are out in numbers today even on VINO. Whether you like Fraser or not, he has made some valid observations which cannot be ignored. Firstly, that investment scheme is illegal as there is no legislation to support it and secondly, the risk factor is far too high to be taken likely. It is crystal clear that the Minister of Finance has chosen to stick his head in the sand and pretend that all is well. Trust me, this will surface to haunt him before the elections in March 2015.
