Often controversial talk show host Donald E. de Castro lambasted Government for what he called “doing a lot of foolishness” with public monies when things are not well with the territory. Photo: VINO/File
He said that the Police, Customs and Immigration all have experienced interference by Ministers and hence cannot properly carry out their duties in adherence to the relevant laws. “We have to learn to let people do their job...we hired them to do a job within the laws and guidelines and we need to stop interfering,” he said. ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Often controversial talk show host Donald E. de Castro lambasted Government for what he called “doing a lot of foolishness” with public monies when things are not well with the territory.

He was speaking on his monthly talk show Straight Talk heard on Wednesday April 13, 2016 on ZBVI 780 AM.

de Castro lamented that the Government still cannot find money to pay local artists and contractors but yet could have invested $7 million into a foreign owned airline in the name of creating more airlift.

Further, he said persons in the territory are continuing to lose their land and alleged that the Government is not doing anything about it.

“The situation at this time is getting worse where we are losing our land. People who can't afford to lose their land are losing it and the Government is not helping.”

“Remember who owns the land owns the country,” he said.

Say no to Ministers interfering with work of agencies

The talk show host noted that it is difficult to determine whether the Government has money or whether it is broke.

“It is sure that whatever they have they are mismanaging it. And now here they are saying in the latest news that taxpayers owe them millions and millions of dollars and they have to make some attempts to get it,” he said.

“That should not be a problem at all...but the problem is this government and past governments make laws and some of them are good laws. However, once they make the law it is their intention not to have these laws enforced,”

“If you enforce the laws people will pay their taxes and we shouldn't have any problems...but we need to let the people that enforce the laws enforce them and stop interfering.”

de Castro said that the Police, Customs and Immigration all have experienced interference by Ministers and hence cannot properly carry out their duties in adherence to the relevant laws.

“We have to learn to let people do their job...we hired them to do a job within the laws and guidelines and we need to stop interfering.”

He said that the territory needs to get its priorities straight as it cannot continue going down this same road.
