National U12 footballers shine @ 3rd Annual GPS Caribbean Showcase
The Virgin Islands (VI) team recorded a stirring 5-4 victory over GPS Massachusetts in the second game at the GPS Caribbean Showcase, with Azarni Callwood grabbing the match ball following a hat trick and two assists.
Game one had seen the VI boys narrowly defeated 5-6 by GPS Guaymabo with the scorers for the VI being Adrian Adams (2), Nicky Haycraft, Ryan Lettsome and Lewis Munn.
According to the BVI Football Association, coach John Riley commented that there was a lot of positives to be taken from the defeat as the commitment and attitude had been brilliant and had it not been for some "gifts" the boys would have won their first game.
The visitors would narrowly lose their final game, 3-2, to the eventual champions. Adrian Padilla scored both of the goals for the Virgin Islands.
The U12 team was transported around Puerto Rico by Allied Car and Truck Rental.
The squad: Johari Lacey, Jefferson Frank, T’Khoy Morton, Omari Simmons, Ryan Lettsome, Azarni Callwood, Derion Hodge, Jaden and Jadon Abrams, Joel Mars, Lewis Munn, Adrain Padilla, Nicolas Haycraft, Ollie Henderson, Jeriek Samuel and Deshaun Richardson.
BVI Football Association (BVIFA) coaches, Cassandra Gregg and John Riley, accompanied the team.
