ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Two days after announcing that he was resigning from the People’s Empowerment Party (PEP) to join the Opposition Virgin Islands Party (VIP), political candidate in the last two general elections of the Virgin Islands, Mr Natalio D. Wheatley has indicated he will be vying for the position of President of the VIP when its elections is held on November 30, 2016.

Reports of Mr Wheatley’s intentions had reached our newsroom this evening, November 23, 2016 and we received confirmation subsequently.

“Yes, I decided to put my name forward,” Mr Wheatley told Virgin Islands News Online.

The radio talk show host and political activist made the announcement of his leaving the PEP and joining the VIP via a press release on November 21, 2016, stating that the Virgin Islands Party presents the most viable alternative to the governance of the National Democratic Party (NDP).

Mr Wheatley twice ran unsuccessfully for public office. In 2011 he contested the elections as a Territorial At Large Candidate with the People’s Patriotic Alliance (PPA), garnering 785 votes and positioning 10th out of 16 At Large Candidates.

In 2015, Mr Wheatley contested the general elections with the People’s Empowerment Party (PPA), again as an At Large Candidate. He garnered 470 votes to place 11th out of 16 At Large Candidates.

It is not clear who else will be contesting for President of the Virgin Islands Party (VIP), a position that will be left vacant since long-time president Mr Carvin Malone will not be seeking re-election.

Everyone crying about changes/hard times/et and no one offer how to help. Anyone who try to make a difference in any way of positive either if they don't get right should still be given a support. Why can't we just have hope? What's so hard in given a person or wishing someone the best? If none you you'll ain't going to join a party to help make a positive difference please keep all negative comments to yourself.

    We need solutions.

uncle Stoutt and uncle Malone rolling over in their grave all now: most things gets older with age but the older VIP gets the more fragile it has become....enquiring minds wants to know after almost 50 years were have the VIP gone...however VIP have a probable chance of winning by default come next election

Natalio only join VIP because he knows the people voting out NDP come next election. If he had an inkling that NDP would be re-elected he would join them too. In this little place it's all about power and not the best for the people at heart. He sees this as an opportunity to get the presidency-ship which will never happen. Join VIP if you want to join but settle in and learn before going the mile. This power hungry mentality is mind boggling. Natalio have an idea but he don't speak intelligently at all. The late Willard was his grandfather and he trying to walk in his footsteps but he has a long way to go. His father pushing him (nothing wrong with that) forward but even his father speaks nonsensical.

The young man should formed another political party because the territory have loads of intellectual young people: the level of scope and conversation should be about forward planning: what's in site for 2026 and not what happened in 2006....leadership is about our putting heads together not cutting each other throat for political influence: my concern is what's at stake for my grandsons and my granddaughters when wil we hear still level of conversation from political leadership.....when you reflect on where we came from as a people to where we are now one must recognise things have gone wrong(keep the faith)
