ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- NAGICO Insurance recently joined forces with the Rotary Club of Road Town to deliver a command vehicle to the Virgin Islands Fire and Rescue Service.

In the presence of Premier and Minister of Finance, Dr The Honourable D. Orlando Smith (AL), and Honourable Myron V. Walwyn  (AL), Minister for Education and Culture, Chief Fire Officer, Zebalon A. McLean was presented with the keys to a spanking new 2017 Hyundai Tuscon during a reception hosted by NAGICO Insurance Managing Director, Mr Shan Mohamed on Friday, June 2, 2017.

“NAGICO is pleased to be part of improving the capabilities of firefighting and rescue capabilities in the Virgin Islands through the donation of a command vehicle to be used by the Virgin Islands Fire and Rescue Service. Mr McClean and his team are deserving. We ask our fire officers to put their lives on the line for us and it is wonderful to help them,” Mohamed told the gathering which included several senior members of the Rotary Club of Road Town.

He explained that two years ago, NAGICO was part of similar donation of a vehicle to the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) for the purposes of community policing.

“We truly care about the development of the Virgin Islands and as a company, NAGICO is committed to being part of initiatives that will meaningfully benefit the community. Residents can count on our future contributions to meaningful community initiatives,” Mohamed assured.

The vehicle is to be used for community outreach programme such as lectures, presentations, evacuation drills and inspections, joint exercises and investigations. Additionally, the vehicle is to facilitate operational response through the transport of both primary and secondary responders and will serve as a communications cenre in the field.

Humbling

“It is humbling to receive a donation such as this due to the efforts of generous private entities and hardworking, benevolent individuals,” Chief Fire Officer McLean stated.

The Fire Chief added, “We are employed by our Government to work for the people, and the people shall be served with this vehicle in every way possible. I sincerely thank all the persons who made this acquisition a reality.”

President of the Rotary Club of Road Town, Nelcia St Jean thanked NAGICO for their contribution towards the donation of the vehicle.

“We are pleased that we can count on companies like NAGICO to deliver for the community. Rotary is serving the community, but we rely on contributions from the community to make it work. The Virgin Islands community is better served with the command vehicle,” St Jean noted.

NAGICO continues to demonstrate good corporate responsibility through contributions to cricket, squash, tennis, music, among others.

The company has been a long-time partner of the community groups, including the Rotary Clubs of the VI, Family Support Network, BVI Cancer Society, BVI Red Cross, the BVI HIV/AIDS Foundation and has also adopted the Isabella Morris Primary School as part of its wider support for education in the Virgin Islands.

That is simply the people's contributions buy it is a very good gesture: year after year these Insurence companies pocket far more money than they actually payout .....it's a nice way of giving back

you have to give credit where credit is due - how may other insurance companies has yet to give back to the BVI community? to date NAGICO has given 4 or 5 vehicles to the public service & numerous contributions to other causes .

I hope this company is not expecting any special favors in return. Often, this is the first part of a one two punch. However, if the gesture is genuine, we thank them. But we must always be wary of those who come bearing gifts. This has happened too many times before.
