ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI –Known throughout the Caribbean for setting the bar high for community initiatives, leading insurer NAGICO Insurance once again demonstrated commitment to youth development with support for the just concluded Mister and Miss Senior ESHS Pageant, formally the Mister and Miss Fifth Form Pageant.

Seventeen-year-old Mya A. Walwyn and 18-year-old Calden K.A. James, were crowned the very first Mister and Miss Senior Elmore Stoutt High School. On Friday, February 10, the two created a buzz at the NAGICO’s Road Town office during a thank you tour, interacting with staff and sharing many friendly conversations.

NAGICO warmly greeted the duo, providing them with individualised gift baskets and offered words of encouragement.

“We want to congratulate both Mya and Calden on becoming the first winners of the pageant under the new name,” said Niasha Benjamin, Manager of the Medical Department.

Benjamin added, “NAGICO has demonstrated once again that the company is heavily invested in youth development because supporting the pageant is supporting everything the pageant aims to achieve, especially providing a positive platform and opportunity to showcase the skills and talent of youth. It was an amazing pageant from all account and I want to encourage both Mya and Calden that with the victory comes great responsibility to lead by example. NAGICO applauds your victory and is confident that you will both have a good reign.”

NAGICO also commended the school for providing the avenue for the senior students to support the initiatives.

In accepting the gifts provided by NAGICO, Mya thanked the company for their support of the pageant.

“I know NAGICO has always done good things in the community and their support has helped me to achieve this title. Thank you NAGICO,” said a beaming Mya who hopes to one day manage her own business.

Calden said that through the pageant, he has learned the value of time management, having to simultaneously complete his school work and prepare for the pageant.

“I encourage more boys to get involved and not to see the pageant as something only for the girls. You learn a great deal from being involved in the pageant. NAGICO’s assistance has helped us to achieve this victory and we thank NAGICO,” Calden stated.

NAGICO has been involved in several education initiatives in the Virgin Islands, adopting the Isabella Morris Primary School, partnering with the Rotary Club of Road Town to deliver over 700 bags and school supplies to students across the Territory; delivering text books and other supplies to top performers; and supporting the annual UNESCO Science Fair among numerous other ventures.
