ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – NAGICO Insurances is extremely proud with the sensational season produced by sponsored-athlete Reuben J. A. Stoby who was named Male Road Racing Athlete of the Year 2015 when the British Virgin Islands Athletics Association (BVIAA) held its 7th Athletes Awards Gala presented by Sol on Tuesday December 29, 2015.

On the evening of the awards dinner, the Moorings’ Mariner Inn on Wickham's Cay II, Tortola, British Virgin Islands was filled with many athletes who have succeeded at various levels of competition during 2015.

It was the crowning moment for Stoby who has enjoyed tremendous success on the road racing scene in the British Overseas Territory as he ran unbeaten in the 2-mile, 5K and 10K competitions for the year while setting a number of course records. He also placed 2nd in the Virgin Gorda Half Marathon in May.

A fourth place finish in the BVI Half Marathon and second in the Ring of Fire, a semi-ultra-marathon, in December completed the year for Stoby who aims to come stronger in the longer distances in 2016.

“We are very happy with the great courage of Mr Stoby who continued to show significant improvements throughout the season last year. We are certainly pleased that we are able to help him attain his goals as a distance runner,” said Ms. Shaquilla Smith, NAGICO’s Marketing Executive.

To show his gratitude, Stoby visited NAGICO’s Road Town office on Monday January 4 and presented the Athlete of the Year Award to the company.

“This is very thoughtful of Mr Stoby to present us with the award. We plan to prominently display it at our office as a representation of NAGICO’s committed service to the BVI community. I want to wish Mr Stoby continued success in the upcoming season,” Ms Smith stated.

Although he only started running in 2013, Stoby said his passion to succeed, discipline, determination, hard work and Nagico’s encouragement and support, enabled him to be competitive and eventually become road racing champion of the BVI.

“In October I was selected to compete in the NACAC 10K in Petit Bourg, Guadeloupe where I competed against some of the best in the world, including from Kenya, Canada and France. In November the Athletic Association of Guadeloupe invited me to take part in another 10K where again I gained valuable exposure competing against some of the best in the Caribbean,” Stoby said of his “amazing” year in athletics.

Mr Stoby also extended gratitude to Nagico Insurances BVI for their sponsorship in 2015.

“Nagico really had me covered in 2015 with their encouragement and support. Their sponsorship motivated me to work even harder as it was now not only about me.”

Regarding his Athlete of the Year Award in Road Racing, Mr Stoby said he was delighted to know that his hard work was being recognised.

“I now hope to build on the success of 2015 to achieve even more remarkable things in 2016. This includes successfully defending my titles, and winning the VG and BVI Half Marathon titles which eluded me last year and saw both races won by athletes outside of the BVI.”
