Myron Walwyn’s attack on VINO staff is senseless, childish & distasteful!

The controversial Minister for Education and Culture Myron V. Walwyn launched another attack on the media in a statement released to selective media houses. This time it’s a staff member of Virgin Islands News Online. Mr. Walwyn claimed that John E. Leonard, who is Advance Marketing and Professional Services' Marketing Executive and General Manager, is “mysterious”. Many are unsure why Mr. Walwyn, who has not done anything substantial since taking office, will waste tax payers’ money bashing the personnel of a public relations firm. Photo: VINO/File
Advance Marketing and Professional Services is the parent company of Virgin Islands News Online. While doing nothing since elected 19 months ago, Legislator Mr. Myron V. Walwyn has used all his time attacking this online news site. His latest attack came in a statement where he attacked the site’s General Manager Mr. John E. Leonard. However, Virgin Islands News Online continues to be the most popular read online news site and has cemented its reputation for being first, accurate and up-to-date. Image: VINO

Statement by Advance Marketing and Professional Services on the attack by Myron V. Walwyn on our staff John E. Leonard

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Advance Marketing and Professional Services, the parent company of Virgin Islands News Online, was saddened to learn that government Minister Myron V. Walwyn, in his efforts to remain politically relevant, has attempted to include a staff member of our company in his disingenuous political statement released to selective media houses on July 9, 2013.

It is our understanding that his statement was supposed to be a response made by one of the many clients of Advance Marketing and Professional Services, the Third District Representative Honourable Julian Fraser RA.

In his statement Mr. Walwyn said, “in a July 8 statement released on behalf of the Representative for the Third District, Hon. Julian Fraser, by the mysterious John Leonard, who coincidentally is also the General Manager of Virgin Islands News Online….”

Advance Marketing and Professional Services Board of Directors regards this as a blatant, unwarranted attack on our General Manager and Marketing Executive, Mr. John E. Leonard.

Advance Marketing and Professional Services is a public relations, events and marketing company registered in the Virgin Islands and has many clients, including elected officials from both sides of the isles, political clients in St. Kitts, Nevis, Trinidad and Tobago, and continues to handle public relations for many individual clients.

While most of our clients do not have access to the public purse to obtain a speech writer at $86,000 to cut and paste political garbage and propaganda, some of our clients can afford to hire us to dispatch a press release, as many other public relations and marketing firms do both locally and internationally for their clients in all parts of the globe.

Therefore, the baseless attack on our staff Mr. Leonard suggesting and implying that he is “mysterious” is unbecoming from someone in high office. As a person that the voters have asked to represent their interests in our House of Assembly, this action can only be described as nothing but simply shameful.

One can only conclude that this kind of behaviour suggests irresponsibility on the part of the Minister. Mr. Leonard, who operates from overseas like some three of our associates and other media partners, has never said publicly or privately anything disparaging about the Legislator and has not even met Mr. Walwyn!

Why then should Mr. Walwyn, in a political statement where he was claiming to be speaking for the Premier of the Virgin Islands and the National Democratic Party, draw our staff into this?

One could only now conclude that the Minister is launching another baseless attack on Virgin Islands News Online or has other motives to seek the attention of our esteemed Chairman and founder Mr. Julian Willock, as many continue to suggest.

We, therefore, request an explanation from Mr. Walwyn on the uncalled for attack on our staff and demand an apology within 48 hours.

In this difficult economic time for most residents, when many of our brothers and sisters and others who have come to live among us are being laid off from their jobs, the banks are repossessing cars, houses, businesses, equipment and land, when schools are in physical shambles, and Education is at an all time low in terms of success rate, this unprofessional behaviour by Mr. Walwyn is unacceptable.

At a time when most people are living from pay cheque to pay cheque, whenever they get one, along with most having to find two and three other jobs to survive, we would rather hear about solutions to these weighty issues from our Premier.

Regrettably, Mr. Walwyn for the past 19 months has not done anything in any of these areas, but instead is wasting tax payers’ dollars on the personnel of a Public Relations firm.

The people of the Virgin Islands are today ashamed to see the level of representation offered by Mr. Walwyn, where his focus is not on your needs, but his obsession with gaining political points and bringing attention to himself.

We continue to thank the many readers, advertisers and team of reporters for their consistent and unwavering support of our news site. Your steadfastness and strong support continue to keep us on the high road of professionalism and consistency and we remain very encouraged and humbled by your prayers and wise counsel.

What the hell is wrong with this man Walwyn. The funny thing I know his father and he aint nothing like this fellow. What it is he want? Orlando, Mr. Premier please muzzle this fellow. May be he will listen to Eiline.

Schools fallinf apart, 15 year old prisoner up in his prison smoking pot and drink booze with grown @$$ men, teen age girls in high school having sex with grown @$$ men, little league baseball team need money to go to tournament in Bonaire no money, little league basketball team need money to go to Puerto Rico for trials no money, two horses break them legs on the race track in just over 6 months, Minister what the hell are you doing about these things? Stop being Premier. If Orlando cant handle Fraser that is his business not yours, he has a Deputy.

So what are you trying to say? That the minister is responsible for this? Why the hell these organizations dont start to raise funds a year in advance when they going away and stop depending on government to fund everything. So the minister suppose to be the guard at the prison as well as the guard to stop children having sex? Where are the children parents inall of this? Where are the appointed guards at the prison. The things some of us does blame elected officials for makes me wonder what are we thinking. We are not seeing the real picture here at all.

@Princess, take a look at this and then may be you would see why we blaming this no good bunch for society falling apart. We now have the facts: The NDP told us VIP emptied the Reserves, we now find out that they lied. The NDP told us the VIP left the country broke, we now find out that they lied after learning about the many over priced consultants, airport & port multimillion dollar projects, over priced one night dinner & speechwriter; 10yr old millions in payment to cronies for airport; over priced manse road, Craft Alive project, Georgie Hill, & many more projects by the NDP.

@ Top That..?? What are you talking about? What you blog has no reference to what I blog. But since you want to go there we can go there. The Queen's auditors came in and did a report after VIP was voted out. Go get a copy of the report and see for your self. Everything the NDP spoke about in waste of spending is in reports made by independent auditors. The sad thing is that some of us dont read and investigate. We just listen to third hand information and let it clogg our minds with negativity. More money was spent on studies under VIP government than NDP government. Look at that contract that was given to that lady from Trinidad for Education reform and not even a sheet of paper was produced. Look at that contract given to Cline and his company and not a sheet of paper was produced. Those who have ears let them hear...
