Myron Walwyn: I did endorse Fraser in 2003
The National Democratic Party (NDP) candidate was at the time speaking at a tent rally on Thursday, November 3, in Sea Cows Bay.
“I supported Julian Fraser in 2003 and I said that during my campaign that is nothing new. The same Myron Walwyn in 2003 is not the same Mryon Walwyn in 2011. I am sure that we are all wiser now than we were eight years ago,” he told supporters.
The At Large candidate also disclosed that Hon. Fraser, the 3rd district representative, cronies rummaged through boxes to find the tape of him endorsing the incumbent in 2003. He was a member of Hon. Fraser's election committee.
However, in further explaining why he backed away, Walwyn stated, “We learn things now that we did not know eight years ago...in 2011 I do not regard him as someone fit and proper to represent the people of the 3rd district or the people of the Virgin Islands.”
He added that no politician should ask voters for their support, “when they are not acting in the best interest of the country.” To this end, he asked them to vote for Kevin ‘OJ’ Smith on November 7.
Walwyn, a businessman and attorney, gained prominence in the political arena when he left the Virgin Islands Party, and officially declared his candidacy on December 13, 2010 under the NDP's umbrella.
His favourite catch phrase along the campaign trail is “leh we do this thing”.
