Myron to Premier: Don’t attempt to rewrite my tenure
Mr. Walwyn, who resigned from the post in July 2010 after nearly two years, made the statement last evening Thursday October 13, 2011 at the National Democratic Party (NDP) tent meeting which was held in Baughers Bay.
According to Walwyn, he has heard from Government political meetings that Premier Ralph T. O’Neal in his political expediency is now attempting to re-write his tenure as Chairman of the BVITB. The At Large candidate also divulged that he heard a Government backbencher questioning his competence and record.
“I know he is listening, and so I urge the Premier and Minister of Tourism of this country to quickly abandon the road that he seems to be heading down and let sleeping dogs lie... I have deliberately stayed clear of this topic during the campaign because I firmly believe that we have too many problems in this country, and we should be providing solutions for those problems... and we should be telling the people what we intend to do to improve their lives,” he told supporters.
He continued, “I also believe when you have served as director of a company or a statutory board in this case you should not use information that came to your knowledge in that capacity for the furtherance of any agenda whether political or otherwise. However, there are exceptions. I believe that one of those exceptions would be in circumstances where your character, professional integrity and stewardship are being maligned by persons whom you serve.”
His tenure at the Tourist Board, Mr. Walwyn pointed out, was articulated by the Premier whose high praises of his performance is recorded on tape. And according to the At Large candidate, he will rely on those tapes if it becomes necessary to do so.
As for the At Large representative who questioned his record, Mr. Walwyn stated, “I believe that holders of such high political office should be more prudent and refrain from commenting on matters when they are not in receipt of all the facts. I hope this is not the kind of behaviour that they will be displaying if they get a chance to go to London”.
He added that the 2011 general elections is too important for the people of the Territory for time to be wasted on matters that do not elevate their quality of life or standard of living.
